Do I need to lower the drawbridge to the cavern so they can hunt in the underground?

You don't need to but, yes, that's what they want.

What they do: fart around in your tavern while you're wide open to the caverns, When they've had their fill of booze, food, drink, sleep, and socializing they walk down to the cavern, only to promptly return back up because they don't carry food or drink.
Once they DO manage to synchronize their needs they go down into the cavern and slaughter wildlife, prompting dorfs to rush down to collect the corpses. Once they encounter a monster they get slain by it, prompting your dorfs to rush to the site to collect the monster slayer bits.

As you see, I'm not fond of them, and apart from the first one (above), never approve of their applications.

(Monster slayers, like many other visitors and immigrants these days come with high weapon skills more often than not these days).

Coni Eguiki, Dwarf Beast Hunter necromancer is visiting.

Got an interesting visitor today. I wonder if they are the same type. Never saw a necromancer hunter in action though.

I think this "beast hunter" is an experiment who is also a necromancer. The monster slayers I get all have regular titles like swordsdwarf, human maceman, etc. Coni Eguiki also sounds like an elvish name, but this is not unusual.

They mostly explore the caverns on your behalf saving valuable time & muscle power especially if they can kill a forgotten beast or strong [LARGE_PREDATOR] themselves, but have needs to be fufilled like everyone else when they can (it appears they're a little off task in later versions, keep a eye on it and maybe open a issue report)

Pre-assigning a tomb to them will help you keep their corpse from clogging any stockpiles or general tomb-storage spaces, for every vistor room i have i often have a room for a corpse not far away. (this can only be done while they're alive)

"Beast Hunter" is a regular visitor type that's been around since visitors were added.

Monster hunters WILL start the zombie apocalypse if you let them into the caverns in a reanimating biome.  Undead wildlife is one thing to deal with, but add 30 or so undead monster hunters to the mix and you better hope your squads are well trained and armored.

Are they the same as monster slayers? I didn't pay attention what was announced when my monster slayers arrived, but they don't show the title "beast hunter".

I've never taken the time to see if beast hunters act like monster slayers. Mainly because they often showed up with the "migrant ex-spy shows up with fake profession" bug so they weren't "real" beast hunters. Will keep a look out in the future for them now that that's been fixed.

They're probably just guys looking for a tavern to take a break from beast hunting.

Is it possible beast hunters are looking for animal people of the more savage/evil/wild variety rather than the monsters in the caverns? And it’s been a while since I have hit the caverns so do you get animal people in the caverns?
