Roll to Quest: The Crossing
« on: February 29, 2020, 10:17:13 pm »

The king has issued a proclamation: the Sacred Sword must be reclaimed! A brave hero must cross the Demon Lands and pluck it from atop the Tyrant's Tower—and quickly, before a month elapses and the Demon Lord's armies invade! But here's the interesting part: the person who delivers the sword will have one wish granted*.

So, O brave hero: what's your claim to heroism, and what do you do?

*While supplies last. Wish must be legal in the Kingdom of Light. Additional restrictions may apply; check with your local baron for details.

Hi, I'm John the Baker. My, uh, claim to heroism is...well, I once lifted a rolled over cart off some poor bloke. Don't know if that makes me qualified, but I'm gonna get that sword.

Edit: Oh, I guess the first thing I'll do is pack some food for the journey.

Allow me to extend to you my salutations and greetings. I have been known by a number of titles, but you may call me with the name of Nobody. A claim to heroism...? Hmn. While I suppose there are a number of those, the times within which they occurred no longer exist.
Let us simply say that I have seen the end of the world more times than anyone should have to.

THE WORLD ENDS AND THE WORLD IS BUILT ANEW
As for what I do? Well, recently I have simply been wandering, assisting people as they require it. I have a well-varied array of magics to call upon, you see. There is most always a sort suitable for the situation.

Hi, my name is Margaret. I work with plants a lot, so there were many times where I was consulted to ensure that a newly found plant wasn’t toxic

Attempt to find something magic, hopefully a wand or staff that would allow me to perform magic

Roll to Multitask, seeking new players.
Yeah sorry, someone blew up a street in my state and took the internet down for multiple days with it.

Hi my name is bob and I'm an alcoholic, and my great deed is not drinking for three minutes.

Go get some booze and a weapon.

Day 1, Morning

Hi, I'm John the Baker. My, uh, claim to heroism is...well, I once lifted a rolled over cart off some poor bloke. Don't know if that makes me qualified, but I'm gonna get that sword.
(-) John does nothing. He is apparently very sluggish on top of being a thief. Some hero!

(-) Nobody also does nothing, as you'd expect.

Hi, my name is Margaret. I work with plants a lot, so there were many times where I was consulted to ensure that a newly found plant wasn’t toxic

Attempt to find something magic
(6) Surprisingly, Margaret is able to find something magic in seconds! Unfortunately, everyone else has also found it, because it's a giant burning orb setting fire to the city streets (which probably also qualifies as unfortunate, come to think of it).

I am Harald! I vill drink from your skull!
(0) Harald's attempt to break the fourth wall and attack the GM nets him an AUTOMATIC ZERO. Try again, buddy.

WOOF WOOF (I am spot, I killed a bear)

Go to the royal armory for weapons and armor
(5) Spot is recognized by the guards as the first and only Herodog and allowed into the armoury, where he is fitted with a custom armored harness and spiked cone.

"I am Augustine Hellmuth, and I am the greatest infiltrator in the Kingdom of Light. I've uncovered countless plots and dismantled innumerable conspiracies."

Find a map of the Kingdom of Light, the Demon Lands, and all, if any, of the lands in between.
(2) Augustine can't find any cartography shops... but what of it? He's the greatest infiltrator in the Kingdom of Light! He knows what's up! He can make his own map!

Yeah, that's the stuff! He'll find that tower in no time!

Hi my name is bob and I'm an alcoholic, and my great deed is not drinking for three minutes.

Go get some booze and a weapon.
(5) Bob purchases a bottle of beer. Having drunk the beer immediately, he smashes the bottle against a wall, producing a useable stabbing implement. Booze and a weapon in one purchase: now that's efficiency!

"My name is Beethro.  And umm.. I'm a smitemaster?"

Head out in the general direction of the demon lands, with my really big sword.
(4) Beethro heads for the border with his sword. That might not sound like much of an undertaking, but it's a really big sword, which means it's a really bulky and heavy thing to carry. It'll pay off, though. Giant swords are, like, the hero weapon.

Edit: Oh, I guess the first thing I'll do is pack some food for the journey.
(3) A fast-talking merchant convinces John to buy a live goat. "Keeps better," he says, "and if your horse dies you can use it to pull your cart!" John isn't sure about the second bit, but the goat *does* look pretty stout. Or possibly just fat? No, definitely stout. A cart-pulling goat if there ever was one.

[It was not quite clear that an action was supposed to be given with the character intro :p ]

Nobody travels off in the direction of the Demon Lands, staff in hand.
Close examination Looking at the staff with any amount of attention immediately reveals to the observer that it fits poorly into reality, with it constantly visually distorting, squares intermittently shifting away or changing color, and emitting a staticy sound akin to unfocused arcane energy.

(A long time ago Actually, never. And also now. Maybe about when Beethro got his sword? Before, probably. After? Time is weird. Like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey stuff.)
