2 million dorfs
« on: February 29, 2020, 01:01:22 pm »

Hi, first post. Love the game.
Question: is this going to break my PC?

The helicopter is rent apart by the collision, its steel unable to resist its inevitable reunion with the ground, and the meat within is smashed by the crumpling cockpit beyond any practical hope of recovery. What comes up, must come down again. Ore and ape, returned to mother planet's embrace.

That... is gonna be real laggy, yeah. Might still be playable if the game doesn't load all those dorfs in at once? Large settlements will often keep the majority of their population abstracted for precisely this reason.

Yeah, i forgot basic info.
DF v.0.47.03, Year 250, small region. all civs are present except elves.
It has to be either corrupted legends export or it's on Legends Viewer side, because i visited that fortress and its literally empty of life (easy to say while being vampire) except one nasty forgotten beast.

edit:it was wrong site. still can't find the actual site, it's on a mountain, can't see anything.

I have a world from 0.47.01 that has a hillocks with over 300000 dwarves in it. It had a normal population when I went there the first time, but afterwards it froze my computer when trying to go nearby...
It might have had something to do with the fact I retired there, or that it's directly south of an underworld-conquered AI Dwarf fortress, but those are just complete guesses.

My money is on a LegendsViewer error. Numbers can get big, but I think there's some sort of cap built in. A million on a small world should be impossible.

Not a problem with LegendsViewer, I have the same issue with goblins in one of my worlds. Raiding the affected sites shows that they have a proportionally large military.

What happened seems to have been a population duplication bug, like what used to happen with tame animals a few versions back. In my case it happened after retiring adventurers. I have population numbers from before and after and they show the goblin population going from ~21k to over a billion.

The changelog for 47.04 says: "Fixed save corruption/duplication related to fort/adv retirement" so hopefully it's fixed.

First it was the giant mosquitos, next the horses, and now coming soon to a world near you, Dorfsplosion!

Question,
What does Regionxxx-world_sites_and_pops.txt read as the number of dwarves in the world (very top of the file, Civilized World Population)?
