Some elven additions
« on: February 24, 2020, 06:05:55 am »

Elves may grow not only metal items from wood, but may grow leather iems from leaf and decorate their items by grown flowers.

Elves may have evil counterpart (like goblins for dwarves). Shepherds of Flesh (SoF) use grown items, not made out of wood, leaf and flowers, but made out of bone and coral if weapons, from raw hide and shell if armor and, maybe, meat or gut clothes. Also SoF are civ of experimenters, so make a lot of generated creatures.

Elves may drink and/or sell non-alcoholic drinks like juice, sirup, honeydew etc. SoF may have sentients blood as drinks in their waterskins. Cults of disease may drink pus, probably, with magic abilities.

I like it, but what race would Take this new form? Preexisting races don't fit at all. Goblins don't work, as they already have that whole "green horde" vibe, and dwarfs, Kobolds, and obviously elves don't fit either. Maybe like dark elves?

If we're going by Tolkien, then orcs are the corrupted version of elves.

It would be based on, "whatever Mythgen throws out". If something like this is added it would be Gnomes as the evil corrupted forms of Elves in one world, dwarves as the evil corrupted forms of fluffy wamblers in another, etc.

Given how evil fluffy wamblers already are, that'd be bad. Or good!

There is going to be a set of default stuff for most worlds, for the low randomness setting. There has to be a default which the randomness slider deviates from, or else we'd  never see any dwarves and the game's title wouldn't make much sense. ;D

True, but the likelihood of Toady adding to the default a brand new main race according to some Tolkien/D&D themed lore is close to zero.

And Dwarves being the evil corrupted offspring of Fluffy Wamblers is a perfectly viable origin story for default. It's still all going to be generated by Mythgen, even if it ensures that Dwarves exist.

Well, adding a brand new default race is what the OP is suggesting, and Tolkien is basically the definition of default fantasy. If you wanted to add corrupt, flesh-shaping elves, orcs would indeed be a good choice for that.

Well, OK. If we're just having a conversation about an imaginary random game that isn't Dwarf Fortress, that's fine. Kind of pointless putting it here in the suggestions forum though. Maybe mods?

"Orc" is also just the elvish word for "goblin".
