...I have two reservations.

First: in calling Rupert, we're throwing our lot in against the Empyre. If that's the course we intend to take, well and good-- but unless we're willing to commit, we'd be better off refraining for the time being.

Second... er. What are we in Rupert's eyes, at this point? A sister? A comrade-in-arms? An oath-breaker? An abomination? He may not be so sympathetic as we'd hope.

We've already alienated the Empyre, as we are wanted by them with a huge bonus to whoever kills us.  There's no way we can deter Magnus without help.

If it were myself in this position, φοῖνιξ... I'd begin by calling Magnus. Find out what he wants with us. If I liked his answer, I'd send word to this Ashley girl for a political lead-- if not, I'd seek out whatever allies against the Empyre the Line Sol has to offer.

That said... I can't help but feel your friend there wants this to be your choice. Think on it, as she suggests. Draw your own conclusion.

"Perhaps?"  If the Empyre chooses not to prosecute Alphira, second-in-command of the pirates that attacked and challenged the Empyreal Navy, even though they're offering an exorbitant sum for her execution, I will eat my metaphorical hat.

There was none. Alphira took her orders directly from Alphias. As did Rupert.

I don't know.  A knife in the dark... perhaps Rupert would see an opportunity to eliminate us and assume command of the Line.  Sol save and preserve us...

On further reflection, Rupert is a monster that destroys entire planets.  We don't want someone like that to do their thing and attract unwanted Empyreal concern and attention.  I suggest that we see what Ashley can do for us.  Before that, however, I agree with Constantine that we should contact Magnus first so that we can get a better idea of what we need from Ashes.

You type in the routing number into the desktop console. Cephie takes a glance and, with a dip of her head, leaves the room. It connects and routes-- until you have to sit waiting. A gentle song plays as you wait on hold. Then the screen flares to life -- revealing a pale young man in a jumpsuit. A damp mane of black hair tangles its way down the back of his impossibly pale, alabaster skin. His green eyes fixate on the screen. Magnus squints at you, confused.

"[Who are you and how did you get this number?]" He questions, in perfect High Empyreal.

"[I am Phoenix, and I am contacting you from Mercenary's Rest.  You know me as Alphira.  I understand that you are interested in me?]"
