Also, ask her why William wasn't at the minister meeting. Is he still head of Internal Affairs?

We might as well just give the speech now. Are there any major points Emma wants us to hit?

I feel like I remember Emma or someone else mentioning that William might be better suited to a different position, possibly training the Warmachines

["Alright Emma. I'm ready for that speech. Any major points you want me to hit?"] You transmit through Lucille, eating, thankful for the ability to transmit without speaking, as you are tucking into the wonderful spicy food Cephie provided.

["Just that you're alive, doing fantastic, thanks for asking. Quell those pesky rumors that you're dead, basically."] Emma responds after a delay.

["Hey, where's William, by the way?]"

The line is silent. Then, ["I'll tell you after the speech. I'll meet you at the Amphitheatre at [1600]."]

Hmm. Is he fighting rebels or something?

["Understood. I will see you then."]

Go see Mitch if we have extra time.

Or [plague]. It's been a month-- the war has continued, I expect, in our absence.

Mitch is in Emma's care now. It's... probably best he stay there. We've a speech to work out.

What? She's not taking our dog. We can throw a speech together in like 15 minutes.

Was it ever our dog? Emma always had more time with it than we did.

If you want to go to war, we can go to war. We're keeping Mitch.

I should have known this would be an issue... you never wanted Mitch in the first place.

That creature's adorable and all, but it's always been a liability for us. Does it go back to Emma the next time we fight and die and live again? The time after that? How many times do we need to go through this, before we realize we were never the caretaker here?

...

We... can ask, I suppose. Either now, or (preferably) after our speech. But I'm inclined to let sleeping dogs lie.

That dog is more than adorable, it's a valuable asset. When it mutates, it will be capable of taking the field, and I want it alongside us at that point. Would you so easily throw away an investment years in the making?

It'll make a nice bodyguard, but will it be fit for the kind of war we fight? Could it face down hovercraft, colossi, and survive as we must? I suspect we'd be throwing it away just the same, casting it against the full fury of the Plague-- however big it gets. Flesh is flesh, and the Plague is nothing if not skilled with flesh.

The question remains: where does the Barker go when we can't be around for it?

Are you attempting to claim that all creatures of flesh are incapable of fighting the plague? I guess we'd better tell our soldiers to cool it while we take the field without them. I don't see a problem with Emma or an assigned guardian taking care of him when we're not around.
