That's... a lot.  I'm not sure if that would be feasible.
we’re talking about SEED, I’m sure he has the money

I wonder how that works.  Is there a tax and does SEED print the money?

"Big bill... still, perhaps doable once we tap SEED's militia-funding in earnest. I'll push to fund Warmachine conversion for thirty, and we'll expand from there."

"How's young Moore these days, by the by?"

"He's fine, and healthy. In a couple of years I intend to start having him make rounds with all the village heads, so he can learn leadership from them, especially since there's no need to kill you. Yet." William replies with a grin, slinging the bag over his shoulder. "Had a bit of the sniffles, but Silas got him on some medicine and he's right as nightly rain, now."

"He's growing up with a retired Defender's family now. A good life. Not an easy one, like Emmas, or a rough one, like an orphan's. Perfectly in the middle."

Smile faint. "Good. He'll have his shot at a happy childhood... and who knows? Maybe by the time he's of age, we'll have won this war; and his generation can live out its days in peace."

"G'night, William."

"Here's hoping." William nods, stepping out the door with a lift of his free hand in a wave, leaving you alone in the courtyard as snow falls from the sky. "See you later, Phebe."

In a strange mood, you drift back to your bedroom. Mitch sleeps soundly, an ear shifting towards you as you enter. Emma is still sleeping, and after a brief shower, you reclaim your place beside her. You fall into a dreamless sleep soon thereafter, only to be roused the next morning by Emma giving you a chaste peck on the cheek.

"I'd bring you breakfast in bed, but I'm still trying to get that information you wanted. The flyover is ready to go when you give the word, so...be careful." She explains dutifully, flashing you a smile as she leaves. "I ordered breakfast to be brought up for you though!"

Then she's gone, Mitch trailing behind on a chew marked chain. A piece of paper nearby explains what landing pad the ships are waiting at -- they'll be ready for liftoff as soon as you arrive. As if on queue, as soon as you finish reading, a guard knocks on the door. You dress, and receive them, and they set your meal down on the cluttered desk. A porridge of grain meal, with dried fruit mixed in. Pancakes, smothered in grape syrup, and a lot of sauteed insect meat cut into thin ribbons. Beside that is a fluffy looking [omelet] folded into a quarter of the size, the top covered with creamy, tart cheese.

You tuck in as you read what you've been given in terms of an escort team -- its nothing special, you think, but probably an expensive allotment. There will be six gunships to escort the scout hover-craft, which, itself is unarmed. You have enough fuel to reach the western coast and back, as well. The escort vessels have been outfitted with anti-air autocannons, and so have about ten thousand rounds of exploding rapid-fire ordinance each. The pilots, you note, have all had air to air combat experience, as well.

They might have been the only ones in all of the Crusaders, you reckon. Air to air combat here is still in its infancy.

Warplans. Yes.

Go don our war-kit, and stock up on nutrient cubes.

Say, Alphira... this shield-belt of ours. Is there a way we can speed its charging, like how we power our armor?

+1

Emma's vision is worrisome... we may need to boost anti-air production to prepare for the plague's change of tactics.

Soon! We'll equip, maybe hash out a plan or two with our underlings-- then we take flight. :)
