"...I guess, yeah. A moment--" Grab that picture of the Leviathan, and return.

"I'm not sleeping too well anyway." Hand the paper William's way. "What do you make of this?"

Hold on, Emma was hesitant to show us those drawings, and it was clearly very distressing for her.  We should get permission from her to show them to her brother.

That's... fair, yeah. So a simple

"...Yeah, sure."

and we'll leave it at that.

You and William head towards the training room, an oft-repaired and oft-abused part of the compound. The Guards have done a great job fixing all the previous damages. You can barely tell you ripped this apart, or burned it so heavily that the concrete walls begin to crack.

Luckily for you, the rain has turned back into snow, drifting down to collect in soggy piles of mush. The cold never bothered you, so you shuck your coat as William drops a bag. The bag contains a number of implements; punching gloves, heavy, thick rubber sticks, and other training equipment that you lack.

"What d'ya wanna do first?" William drawls with a grin, peeling off his coat and overshirt.

William nods, snatching one up and passing it to you with a grin. He takes the other, bracing his feet firmly. "I never did get to see you in an actual sword fight. No tricks can work here though." He grins, "Have you ever used a sword before?"

Do you try any tricks or do anything of note, or simply go at it?

Hm, have we dabbled in swordplay before? It occurs to me that I don't actually know what sort of sparring went down back at the Academy gym...

In the Academy, you were taught unarmed martial arts, how to use the butt and bayonet of a rifle, and how to avoid being shot. Swordmanship, if you're not mistaken, would have come up during Crusader training. You vaguely remember something from your days as Alphira, but that was with a cutter blade -- parrying with a cutter blade, you remember, is a bad idea, so the style required you to dodge the blows or deflect it...with...something.

It seems like the most useful thing would be to act like the rubber sticks are cutter blades and continue the dodging, maybe we can try to trip him?

"I learned bayonets-- Alphira learned Cutters. Never swords."

Go off what we know, for now.
Maybe William can give us a pointer or two as we go.

"SEED, they still taught bayonets!" William gives a sharp laugh at that, and the two of you begin to circle one another, "That was something we stopped teaching Thorntons when automatics las-guns started to leak. No wonder we're losing this war."

[3+1 vs 6+2] "Affix bayonets!" William calls, then shifts forward on one foot, lunging out with his 'sword' in a straight line. You're distracted by his banter- and he prods you roughly in the side.

[12+1 vs 8+2] -- and in return you give him a harsh hack across the chest. He stumbles back with a crooked grin.

[17+1 vs 1+2] You smoothly dodge of the way of his next blow, then his next, shifting from foot to the other and back again, avoiding the attacks that come more and more rapidly. At first, William seems to have you on the defensive, but it isn't until you side-step a lunging blow and thwack him thoroughly on the back that he realizes he was playing into your hands.

[16+1 vs 13+2] The next exchange follows suit, even if William is paying more attention to you -- you manage to barely sidestep a few of his blows, or deflect them off of your own sword with a twist of an angle. On the last strike, a savage stab by William, you shift to one side, and he oversteps. You help him along with another firm thwack on his back.

William laughs as he picks himself up from the ground, brushing the snow from his clothes. "You're good, or maybe you're just distracting me."

"Nice try to shift the blame, but if anyone here has an advantage in dirty fighting, it's you.  Ready for some more, or have you had enough?"

Bait him, and then, if he attacks, parry and riposte.
