Perhaps... perhaps... I got carried away.  Sorry.

"There is no need.  I apologize... I got carried away.  We will cooperate."

[-] "No." Xavier expression turns fierce in an instant as he rounds on you, standing toe to toe with, face to face. "I gave you a chance to cooperate, and you choose to flaunt your status in the face of duty and law. No doubt you're telling the truth, and SEED will clear you immediately-- that is not my concern."

"You chose the hard way. You chose to lie to me. So, as a consequence, the entire damn city is going to know that you were escorted back to your compound by me. And [angel] or not, I will drag your skinny ass back to your compound. I will haul Emeralda off to the military brig, and I'll haul William off to the worst fucking pit I can find--"

Xavier breathes out a heavy sigh, nostrils flaring, "Then I'll interrogate the bartender. Post a guard around this building. I can't haul off your boys, but I can put enough Guardians here that if they try to take someone away, Guardians will die. The Thornton's rights will be revoked, and they'll be treated as an enemy of the state."

"In one move, I can dismantle sixty percent of the damn drug trade in this city, and show the city what you think of the law. Why the -fuck- shouldn't I?"

Urgh. This is what happens when you lie to the nice policeman.

"...William? Bring up the cultist. Can't very well interrogate him ourselves if we're being hauled off to the penitentiary, hm?"

"No." Xavier repeats, "Don't bother unless you can give me a good reason. I'll get the captive one way or the other, Mother Alphira. This is a public building. I can't search it, but two guardians sitting around and relaxing, well, I'm sure that your captive isn't very comfortable. If he leaves to eat or drink or take a shit, my Guardians can take him in as a suspicious individual."

"Hell, if he starts screaming, that's enough cause."

Cooperate's all well and good, but we're about to lose face and get our crooked compatriots jailed simultaneously. Cooperate doesn't work right now.

"I have information that would be useful to you in your pursuit of corruption.  I will disclose this information to you if you give me another chance, and I will work with you to scour this city clean."

Speak evenly. "He knows what happened here. He'll tell you what you're after. Do as you will-- but in my capacity as an officer of SEED, I'm giving you the authority to search that cellar, right here, right now. As requested."

"That isn't a good reason, and there's plenty of evidence of corruption sitting in this room." Xavier explains, shifting his hands to his hips. He frowns.

[10] "You're going to apologize to me and my men for bullshitting us. I'm also going to be looking through the Guardian's Widows and Pension fund, and I better see an anonymous donation from two people in this room. Fifty credits or more. Legal channels."

"And that apology better be damn good, Mother Alphira, because you seriously pissed me off tonight. I expected more from you than this." Xavier takes his seat, scratching at the stubble on his chin, "I hoped I could respect you, but you've acted little better than some random thug on the street."

"After that apology, I'll listen to your captive."

That's... fair, yeah. This guy's alright.

Sigh, nod. "You'll have your apology. Will you be calling in your men, or am I to go out to them?"

"Thornton lads! Call in my men." Xavier takes a swig of vodka after casually ordering the Warmachines, and William affirms his command. The Guardians filter in-- dropping to their knees in a bow after they see you.

"Get the fuck up." Xavier barks, sharply, and after a hesitant glance between the two of you, they rise to their feet.

Right... this is gonna hurt a bit.  ::)

"Officers-- it seems I've some bitter words to offer you." Briefly explain the situation.

"I thought to set myself above the law. I thought to conceal information from your commanding officer. In so doing, I have disgraced myself before SEED. I have acted as--" smile thin; glance askance-- "what was it you called me, Xavier? A 'random thug'?"

"I apologize for my misconduct this night. I will not disrespect your forces thus in future."

The cult has already been sent after you, and you're currently interrogating the last remaining captive.

"...good." Xavier relaxes, turning towards his confused squad,  "If I hear -any- of those words leaked to anybody, you all get punished. We clear? Good. Go back to picking up corpses." The squad, more confused than ever, files out. The bartender hauls the cultist out of the beer cellar, and he looks a little worse for the wear, for the ordeal, but still unharmed. The Bartender drops the young man atop the bar rather roughly, but the cultist doesn't complain.

"I would like you to be gentle on him. I gave my word he wouldn't be harmed." You explain to Xavier.

Xavier nods, pulling the young man down into the seat and cutting his bonds. He pushes the glass of water over with a, "Drink, you got a lot of singing to do." And sing the young man does, explaining his name, everything that happened, how he became a part of the cult, so on. His name, as you come to find out, is Jack [X, no surname]. He's the son of a debt-slave stationed in the area.

"You were telling the truth. I'd apologize, only I'm not sorry." Xavier offers your way. "So, we got a powerful cult in the hotbed of sedition in all of SEED. That's like lighting a match next to gunpowder. I don't know where she is, but I can have some of my Guardians start looking for her. DOubt I have the forces to take on two hundred fanatics, though. Military will have to be called in." Xavier gives a significant glance in your direction.
