Ahhaha-- we can fly
We could always fly!

...still, we'd better get back and fast.

In order of priority:

- clothing
- directions back to Villa
- maybe food.

Obtain.

Interesting.  We saw two lines there, fire and silicon.  What were the creatures of darkness, though?  They were helping the Empyreals...

Living weapons made from willpower alone.  How could that be possible?

Remember this thing?

Spoiler: The Twisted Wire (click to show/hide)

Maybe it's got control over iron or something, I dunno. Point is, there's precedent.

Hmm.  Can demons create living armies that resemble themselves?

So, did we see the past?

Not clear, but I think so.

Living weapons made from willpower alone.  How could that be possible?

I've come to suspect that our "willpower" is... some sort of quasi-biological nano-cloud, encoded with the memetic information of all those who through transfusion gave rise to us. It seems that even if the flesh burns away, the cloud can (sometimes) persist. Whether that cloud-entity could be in any way considered the same person as whoever produced it, I dunno.

('course, I may be horribly off the mark here. Is a guess.)

So, did we see the past?

Seems like. Was awfully specific, to be a vision of what is to come.

I think you're right, the "dust" is what gives us our powers, maybe.  I want to try creating a living weapon, if possible.

Yeah, we've a word or two suggesting as much.

No. It just adds to our power.

H-how...wow. Spot on.

[6] With giddiness from the knowledge, figuring the best way down is to fly, you take a step off the mountain-- and try to sprout your wings again-- and tumble down, slaved once more to gravity, coming to rest on sharp gravel. You're back on your feet again, however, with only minor aches and lacerations to show for it.

[11] Your wings once again sprout from your back-- and you take the time to examine them the best you can. They look, at the moment, to just be pure fire, ebbing and flowing with the currents of your willpower. You notice black dust emerging from your back, tipping them. But with a slight tweak to the arithmetic, they turn into angelic wings of multi-hued fire feathers. Then into crooked, boney things. Another set turns into gossamer strands of a multi-hued insectoid nature, like the beetles from your 'childhood' in the Academy. You let them turn back into fire--

And you feel...odd. Less real, less whole.

F̧͓͔̗̠l̤̼͉̰̳͝e̻̘s̘̗͍h̖̤͉̰̦͍̤͜ ͍̜̼̯̳̥͢c̵̱̻̪oh̦̠͍̖̱̝̪e͇̖̳͉s̛̤͓̦̦͔̪̝i̱͈o͏͈̙̞̱n̼͝:̡̥̭ ̣̦͍̱̰̫̦90͖͖͈̗͈͖͝%̯͇͡

That's ominous.

Regardless, you drift down the mountainside, feeling free once more-- and alight in the village plaza. A squad of Thornton Warmachines, fully clad in their clanking armor, face you. You think they're staring as you cancel the arithmetic that burns the wings of your back-- and you notice the 'dust' at the tips evaporates away.

"L-lady...Alphira." The one in the front stutters, and you can tell she's probably deeply surprised by the turn of events.

"Oh come now, it's nothing you haven't seen before." You tease, confidently.

"...yes, and no." She gestures, and a group of older women hurries to bring you a shiny robe of crimson, which you gratefully accept.

"Co-could you uh, feed me, before I head to the Villa?"

The lead Warmachine gestures you into a house with a larger door than the rest, and you duck inside, out of the way of gawking civilians. A young man is manning a machine that produces orange hydrogen fire, cooking a pot of porridge atop it, and looks confused when the two of you enter. "I-I wasn't expecting company!"

They cloth you in simple garments of home-spun wool, and it's scratchy, but hides your nudity. You eat a few good bowls of grain-meal with the female Warmachine, and, you come to find out, her husband. A child emerges sleepily, sitting at the table and eating a bowl, disinterested in you. "We saw a light in the sky, last night,  flying in circles-- was that you?"

You wince, and offer a weak grin. Instead of answering, you instead ask for directions.

"Yeah, just follow the path out of town, towards the east. It leads back to the Villa-- but you're more than welcome to accompany us there. We're heading there for the muster."
