"If that's all you want, Pheobe, then you should die after winning the war for SEED. The world will spin on without us, until the next threat comes." Emma states, bluntly, sharply, and you can tell she meant the words to hurt, but there's impatience in her tone.

Ouch. :-[

Speak bitter. "He was a friend. And I had to push high treason on him like an idiot."
Softer now: "I've been listening to Alphira... I should have been listening to you. I'm sorry."

...

"I'll ask for an audience with SEED and try to press my point.  Perhaps it will listen."

Say this.

"You should, yes. What would you like to accomplish? Everything else comes second. Kindness. Morality. Truth. Your personal happiness..." Emma sighs, stroking your face gently, then nods, relaxing back into her seat in silence. Silas finishes cleaning the mess, unlocking the door as he goes. He cannot do much for the char marks on the metal floor, but he doesn't remark, giving a nod to the two of you as he passes by. Then the two of you are left alone in silence. Emma eventually drapes herself over you, looking out the window as the terrain passes by beneath you. Patchworks of farms, of crops, and the occasional city. The terrain rapidly becomes more and more hilly, until you're over rough promontories. The craft slows and begins to descend.

The Steelworks Number Oh Nine bloom out beneath you. Great buildings jut out from what was a ramshackle collection of houses. Factories belch smoke into the air, and the modest chapel has grown several wings. It stretches out some miles more than previously. Large cargo hoverships flit into a number of landing zones, loading cargo before peeling off into distant skies. Laboriously, the vessel touches down into a landing field.

You and the rest disembark. William is speaking to the captain of the vessel, a freelancer, and you see a wad of cash make its way into the captain's hands. You also notice that William is carrying luggage-- which he wasn't before. You don't think about it.

"Several [beasts of burden] are coming for us." William states, settling down his odd luggage. "If you want to explore the city, we'll make time. It's been a while since you've been back. Nearly three years, right Emma?"

Emma nods, but glances to you, deferring the decision and leaning in close.

Sure, it’s been a while, seeing hat changed will be good, unless the changes were bad, in any case, learning how SEED cares for cities other than the Holy one will help in assessing whether or not he is a good ruler

Every now and again, I am reminded that Emma is... every bit as scary as William, really. Just different.

"We're in no rush." Smile. "Anything in particular worth seeking out?"

"The Market and uh..." William hesitates, "The Market. Maybe one of the taverns. The city is kind of a shit-hole, not going to lie. Black Nicky brought in a bunch of debt-slaves and scared outlanders. Built up a bunch of factories and [tenements]. The Workshop district is still there...but there was a bit of a fire." He shrugs, settling down to sit on his luggage

Check The Market for anything that looks interesting or useful.

William grins and nods, lifting his hand in a vague wave. You and Emma head towards the city. The streets are far different than what you remember them to be, many of the hastily-built huts replaced by prefabricated buildings, stacked haphazardly atop one another. Each one has a solar panel atop the highest building in the stack. The walls are thin, and you can hear echoes of life within. The streets are full too, no one pays you any mind.

The colors of their clothes have not changed much, all browns and gray, but on occasion, you see the flash of color in shiny, thick, knee-length, square-paneled coats lined with blue fur.

Different tongues abound in the conversations around you as well, a motley collection of SEED dialect and a language that diverged from it long ago. The streets become more and more packed as you approach the 'center' of this sprawling city.

And then it opens up into a vast plaza, where there were neighborhoods once before. Many [beasts of burden] lay beside stalls that line the roads. Some are nothing more than poles holding up large cloth sheets, which people shelter beneath. Some are the more uniform SEED style, all blocky lines, and function over form, pre-fab and regular, made from portable sections of cloth draped over thin pieces of steel.

Hagglers abound, selling everything under the sun beneath their roofs of fabric—electronics, appliances, furniture, toys, cloth, guns, clothing, household needs...

Timey-wimey stuff deployed! Any questions don't count as actions, multiple questions will be answered, despite physical locations. Purchasing things from one stall, and you also purchase it from another!

"Ah, ah, the thin one is good for eating, very healthy. We extract oil from its flesh, which allows for some Outland clans to travel outside of their body. It smells fantastic, better from the bigger ones, but they are strong when big! It stings though! [3 credits] in local currency. Good deal!"

"The fat one is used for meat, and its chitin is used to make needles and bowls-- anything one might need if you don't have access to the bioplastics of SEED.[.3 credits] in local currency"

"Ah, the hounds. They are descended from [dogs]," You ask him to repeat that, except slower, "B-ah-ar-kers. Barkers. They rove the crater plains in packs, hunting and eating all they can find. [Beasts of Burdens], insects...children. But these are quite tame! Good stock! They do bite sometimes. [1 credit] in local currency."

I like the dog, except for... the children-eating part.  They're very cheap as well.

Purchase the Barker.

A loaf of bread costs somewhere between .05 and .1 credits, in this town currently, depending on grain supply, with a day laborer making roughly .06 credits per day. You're just loaded on this planet.

The shopkeep, a tall, tan-skinned woman with long, reddish-brown hair, directs you to the pen of [puppies]. She pulls a thick, leather collar with large spikes facing outwards and a long, corded cloth. "Good! Good. Pick one, anyone."

There must be a dozen puppies in the large cage. Some are gnawing on bones, or playfully attacking one another. They scatter quickly when you approach, besides for three of which, that stand their ground, yipping at you. The adults in the other cage begin to prowl the edges of their enclosure, barking in response to the yips. You can hear them growling at you. They all have a sandy, dull gray coat, splotched with black. Emma coos gently, looking up at you. "You want the ones that stand their ground." She opines, kneeling down on the edge of the puppy cage.

"Sorry, sorry for the barking! Usually more well behaved." The Shopkeep claims. "The parents may look small, but that's because they're used to far more food and exercise than I can give. They get big the more exercise and food they get. Some Barkers grow as big as your shoulder!"

Choose one of the three that stood their ground and haggle for a lower price.

[17] You manage to haggle the shopkeep down a considerable sum. Settling at roughly at [0.68 credits] in local currency. You pick one out-- only for it to start squirming and trying to bite you to get free. "He-he doesn't like you!" Emma giggles, "Here, pass it over to me." You do so, and the squirming ceases as it begins to nuzzle into Emma's dress.

A dog is a big responsibility-- one more vote required to finalize the transaction.
