Take flight and follow the mote into the yawning void.

Grasp the spark and use it to shine ourselves, then join the eight pillars in flight.

You take hold of the mote, and fire engulfs you, burning brightly in the darkness. Your wings unfurl, pure, pristine white fire--

Others approach, not you, but similar in size and shape. They walk with their eyes downcast, not able to look directly into the flames that burn around you-- but they take shelter in your warmth, in your light.

Do you still fly free?

Wills tug and pull at one another, united in body, but not in soul. Seams strain and a girl cries out in pain as the stitches break.

[11] You rub at your face and head as you awaken. You take in your surroundings with a sweep of your gaze-- a dingy warehouse room. You're still covered in mud and ichor and sweat, and your arms are bound behind you with a bit of plastic. You can see no one, but in the distance, you can feel the hum of at least one rifle. You test your bindings by tapping them against the floor -- bioplastic from the sound.

It doesn't even strain you to break them apart. With a glance downward, you note that you still have your armor on-- but no weapons.

The [plague] is purged from our cores?

Check our helmet for heartbeats.
[Lucille-- can you get a bead on our location?]

Residual damages remain, as they always have, but the threat is nullified.
[Holy City Suburbs, A Warehouse District]

There are a few nearby, one sitting on the opposite end of the door, the las-rifle in his hands. the others busy themselves in the distance. As your willpower coils around you can feel it-- another willpower in the distance, a predatory intent stalking a safe distance away.

Residual damages... what is this infection doing to us?

Give that other willpower a metaphorical tap on the shoulder. It's probably William.

[20] Nightmares, hallucinations, bouts of uncontrollable rage, insomnia... The Interface begins to describe a number of symptoms, The Plague modifies everything it interacts with in lasting ways: animals, minds, flesh...sometimes strengthening it. That adorable Barker, for instance. How else would it be able to mutate so rapidly and be so aggressive? What evolutionary need is there for a trait like that?

You strain to reach out with your willpower-- and fall short by a few meters. Something chimes in the other room. "Mother Alphira?" A weak voice questions.

Heh. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger.
Have you a name, "Interface"?

"The same! How long have I been out?"

Indeed. A soldier that lives long is terrifying indeed, and we have lived long.
I have been call many things, but have no need for names. Interface is fine. VOID is fine, if confusing, as that is the common terminology for the vast distances between the atmospheres of worlds and other stellar bodies. I was called Lifegiver once. That may be familiar to your particular instance.

"A-an hour after you landed, Mother Alphira. It's...it's you?" The tremulous, male voice questions. William's willpower approaches slowly, stalking into the building. A las-gun follows with him, its reactor humming with killing intent. He slips the door open, peeking inside.

"Oh good, you're not some terrifying abomination." The safety clicks on, and the reactor hums down. Maybe its disappointed it didn't get to kill. A grin curls your lips. He speaks into a radio -- "Yeah, you all can stand down. She's fine."

You suddenly feel dual reactors drifting through your lines of awareness, and the door opens on William and the reformed cultist, who sits with a rifle levelled at the door and a radio in his hand. He sets the rifle down, breathing out a heavy sigh of relief.  William slips the pistol into its holster.

"Why was I restrained?"

Presumably because we passed out abruptly in transport, specifically asking to be contained? These guys ain't gonna mess about with a potential infected [angel] on the loose!

"Lifegiver"-- a motherly name! Perhaps I shall call you "Mother", and leave it at that... what say you?

Assume a suitable slightly-sheepish expression. "Sorry to put you two on edge like that-- I'm fine now! Had to clear a bit of leftover [plague] out of my system... [angel] trick. Fine now."

"The others get back alright?"

Ah that makes sense, though I doubt they could adequately restrain us.
