[-] "Wonderful. Kick some of that military funding my way then." Xavier rises to his feet. "We'll be in touch if I figure anything out. Maybe William can finally rede--" He bursts out laughing, "Sorry, I couldn't even finish that sentence without laughing."

"Keep the captive. Some of my men may have sympathy, and I have better things to do than babysit." He pauses, looking over at you, "Unless you know anything else about the location of these cultists? Or have a better idea?"

How many credits do we have?
If we have them, give 60 credits to Xavier

Let's not blow our pocket change just yet. Still need to pay off that "apology donation" and all.

"I've a couple people I might be able to poke for information... I'll let you know what I find. Other than that, you know as much as I do."

You think better of bribing him -- he's being legal about these things, after all, and you think such a move would insult him more than help your case.

Xavier grunts, lifting a hand in a goodbye wave as he leaves the ruins of the building. Four Guardians return to haul out the corpses of your two guards, and you're left there in silence.

"So that's the famous Xavier Mack." Emma finally breaks the silence, glancing to William, who nods.

"Why do we have a standing bounty protecting his family again?"

"Do you want that bastard unhinged?"

You slump into a seat, breathing a sigh.

What now?

I think we should recover the bodies of our guards for burial and funerals and determine who is now the acting commander of the personal guard.

Hm, we had the Pontifex take Xavier off our kill-list-- I'm suddenly wondering if he should've stayed there. Guy could prove real dangerous, especially if he figures out who's behind Iyal's doings...

"That was embarrassing-- I haven't had to swallow my pride so hard since Rodstadt. Will of cast iron, that one's got."

...

Sigh. "Anyway. We'd best get Jack here back to compound, rest for the morning... do you know where you want to set your Warmachines for the night, William?"

You pass over the credits to Emma, explaining to her that they are the apology donation. She dips a nod, sticking them into her wallet with a, "I'll head to Guardian Central HQ and deposit it there in the morning, Phebe."

"And yeah...that was painful to watch." Emma shakes her head, "And he's not easy to intimidate like the Pontifex...man walks around with no gun for a reason, I guess."

William scowls, tossing a wad of bills over to Emma as well. "SEED, I've paid for more widows and orphans than I've made. I need to get like, a discount or something. Like the commercial ships do -- kill two Guardians, the third is free!" He shakes his head, rising up and pulling a document from his pocket, tossing it over to you. "Here! Happy Birthday."

"Wh-what?" You stutter, confused. "I don't have a--" Its the deed to the bar, one Michael's Public House. The Bartender's eyes go wide, but he doesn't say anything, rubbing at his forehead. You assume he's Michael.

"Damages have already been paid for. Our new friend there is going to make this place Warmachine accessible...as for that, when you recover from this, radio your orders. Emma mentioned something about new recruits and laborers? We haven't got the 'factory' set up yet." William leans over on the bar, snagging one of the intact bottles of vodka, "Didn't you say you were going to get permission to start using SEED supplies?"

"Working on it. Where are you setting your Warmachines, anyways?" You change the topic, still confused about the deed.

"We've got a barracks set up in a warehouse, right next to the smuggler's pad we use. We're setting up our Warmachine factory nearby that. I've been buying up all the property I can find around that section, to give us better control."

"Can you bring my guards' bodies back to the compound?  I don't want to leave them here to rot.  There must be something we can do to improve their survivability..."

That's ah, being taken care of already.

Four Guardians return to haul out the corpses of your two guards, and you're left there in silence.

Nod. "Perfect; I'll meet with those recruits early tomorrow, then, and escort them your way. Didn't get exact numbers, but we had a pretty good crowd assembled-- should be enough to get the ball rolling."

"Production will be slow until we start getting more resources in. We're having to rip apart las-guns for the parts." William explains with a shrug. "It's slow going."

"Phebe? Is there anything you want me to do on that front?" Emma asks, idly. "I could start seeing what resources SEED has for production, and what we can divert to the radio towers and Warmachines."

Grin. "'Phebe'... your brother's rubbing off on you a bit, I think! You two getting along alright these days?"

"That'd be perfect though. If we nationalize this project, really draw from what the City has to offer... we could field these machines in battalions. A force fit to match a horde of [insects], one on one."

Most lasguns come in packages sent out by SEED, if we could just grab the raw materials as its produced by SEED it would be more efficent.

"You're right-- how about I start calling you Phe-Phe instead? Emma retorts flashing a grin and glancing over to William, who rolls his eyes.

"Yeah. A lot of things seem petty when you have eternity in front of you." Emma opines, and William grunts in agreement to both statements.

"That is the plan." William murmurs. "Anything else you need from me, Lady Pheobe, or am I good to go?"
