Damn.  How about this:

Use Inferno to get out of explosion/Cutter range, and then try this:
Can we pop the reactors of our enemy's Cutters?

Let our will rise heavy about us, a numbing shield upon the minds of our enemies. Reach out and Overload the reactors of the white-flaming Cutters.

[11 vs 8/6] Your will crashes down-- several members of the crowd faint away, but the Thorntons in front of you stand firm-- but hesitate. Holding back out of sudden fear or concern. In that moment, you twist it out, reaching out to seize the reactors of their cutters.

[18/20] They both pop, the hydrogen surging forth out of the reactor-- one burns itself away harmlessly, burning the dirt below with gleaming hot fire that leaves it glassy and gray. The other one explodes more violently, blowing away the cybernetic hand of the champion. He staggers, surprised-- you start to surge forward to deal a blow--

[8] "Stop the fight! The Thornton champions both suffered weapon failures." William Sr. announces, and you nearly stumble from your own momentum. "Replace them-- and the hand, if you please." He directs the onlookers.

"That was my will at work, Thornton. Would you have me fight these men like an angel or no?"

...on second thought, we really don't need to drag Alphira into this.

"Then you will have no issue with doing it again, hmmh? Once is a coincidence, twice is on purpose and all that." You feel a slight hunger pain gnawing at your stomach. William Sr. meanwhile simply grins, tilting his head to one side as his soldiers listen to him.

[15] You've convinced a fair few in the crowd, you can tell, but no one protests when the Champions begin to receive aid from their fellow Warmachines. Part of you wants to lash out at all of them, but you hold back, beginning to pace around the edge of your side of the ring. They are re-armed. In one case, literally. Then you begin again.

[20] They charge, and you shift your weight towards them-- something snaps inside your mind. You switch off your cutter hilt and focus on them, only on them. Like a sharp knife. They collapse to your feet, sliding to a rest. They still breath, you think, and you nudge their cutter blades away from them as they burn dirt to smoke and glass.

William Sr. stares, silently. Finally, "It was to the death."

"Father!" William states, glaring as he enters the ring. "They are incapacitated by her will alone, and still you play semantics. What more proof of power do you need?"

[1] "Draw your weapons and kill all of them. Alphira, the failures, Willia--" William Sr. cuts himself off as Emma draws out her pistol and pushes it to his back.

[16 vs 19] He twists, pivoting quickly and swinging his fist into Emma's face-- she's stunned, and his hand goes to the pistol, trying to wrench it away from her. You begin to move, only to be blocked by a Warmachine-- your fist curls as you try to swing--

[9 vs 15] [20 vs 14] The trigger clicks as Emma pulls it. William Sr. pulls the las-pistol away, turning it on his daughter, who stumbles back to try and get out of the way-- your fist impacts the steel helmet of the Thornton Warmachine even as his large fingers fumble for a weapon. The metal dents beneath your hand, and he's knocked over--

[6 vs 13] [16 vs 1] William Sr. aims--, turns the safety off, and pulls the trigger. Emma screams as red mist erupts from her shoulder, the bone shattering and-- William Sr. collapses, falling forward with a hole in his head. You glance back as William lowers his pistol, looking remorseful. You rush to Emma's side without a word, peeling off your coat to wrap around the shattered flesh and bone, holding it tightly. She breathes hard, focusing on you, she starts to giggle through her labored, pained breaths, "Fu-fuck. I fucked up."

Silas is pushing his way through the crowd, carrying a bag with a red cross rune on it. He nudges you out of the way-- not even glancing to William Sr as he begins to triage Emma's mangled shoulder. "Bring her to the medical bay!" The Thornton Warmachines hesitate. You growl, leaning down and picking up Emma without effort, carrying her to a sterile room. Emma shifts closer to you, even as she bleeds on you, her voice becoming halting-- "I-I guess I don't have to worry abou-" She drifts off, color draining from her face, leaving her blue. Blood pools on the bed beneath her.

Silas swears, pushing you away as he pulls blood packs from a nearby fridge, setting up a transfusion station-- a nurse comes in, helping to stem the flow of blood from her gaping shoulder wound.

You step back, giving them room to work. Anger. Fear. Hatred. It all boils inside of you.

[4+4][16+4][12+4] Silas performs surgery on Emma's twisted shoulder after hooking her up to the transfusion station, trying to seal the artery that gushes blood over the bed. He doesn't speak unless it's in clipped, sharp orders to the nurses. At one point in the operation, Emma stops breathing-- forcing Silas to perform compressions and breathe into her mouth. Your stomach drops-- your breathing hard. Rage begins to flow through you until she begins to breathe again. Silas nearly collapses from the strain but continues to operate.

Then he begins to pack the wound with sterilized gauze, which slowly begins to seep red-- he continues this process until the bleeding slows and Emma stabilizes. Her pale chest is covered with blood, and her breath is ragged and shallow. The wound is deep. But she lives. "She's going to lose function in her arm. I can't fit her with cybernetics," he begins, "Too much structural damage in the shoulder." He rises to wash and reclaims his seat, holding a hand over his mouth, muffling his voice as he explains to a nurse taking notes, "Her organs might have been damaged, as well. Possible brain damage."

Silas looks to you, then waves a hand at a nurse cleaning up. It doesn't take long-- he was apparently standing outside the medical wing. He enters the room.

[16] He sits on one of the beds, covering his face with his hands and staying silent as the nurse lists the possible issues that will further complicate from Emma's injury. And she finishes with something that makes your heart hurt "...if she makes it through the night."
