First of all, I'm a noob, so please forgive me if I'm missing something obvious.

I have the following setup.

1. Lukum Logenmozor's corpse. He died from dehydration moments ago and isn't actually part of the setup.
2. Food stockpile set to accept Drinks and no prepared food; takes from the still to the right.
3. Still. There are multiple barrels of various alcoholic drinks still inside for whatever reason.

This is a 3rd dwarf that died from dehydration in the last few months; previous was a few rooms to the north. There is plenty of alcohol. There is water. There are currently no restrictions, although there was one in the past when a wereelephant-elf killed my plant gatherers, that bastard.

It's highly suspicious to me that the stockpile doesn't have any drinks, while the still does. But adjacent stockpile for prepared food is set up exactly the same way (to the best of my knowledge) and works (I think/hope)!

Please help.

Was she a mother? Babies ride mothers for whatever reason, mothers die to thirst.

Yep, and to clarify a bit more, this is a bug that popped up this release and hopefully there should be the first bug fix release... well, I don't know exactly when, but coming up soon hopefully. I'm assuming (or at least hoping) this will be one of the fixes for that release.

Marked as fixed for next version, along with a bunch of others. Past couple of days have seen a blitz on all the new 47.01 bugs at the tracker, so next release is imminent, probably.

"He" is a she, and was a mother of one of the four babies. Two other mothers are among the dead too, while the fourth mother is currently eating, strangely enough (possibly the baby's random pathing entered the food stockpile, as reports indicate that can get the poor baby ridden mothers to eat and/or drink).

Thus, you're most likely subject to the baby rider death syndrome, due to be fixed in the next release.

A suggested work around somewhere on the forum was to create burrows for the kids that covers only the food and drink locations. I don't know if that works, and it will only work (if it does) if the random walk ends up inside the the burrow.
Another way that ought to work is to get the mothers sufficiently injured to be hospitalized in a rack, in which case other dorfs ought to bring food and water to them (untested theory).

Thanks all for the replies.
I was sure I somehow messed up because the drinks stockpile has no drinks in it. Is this some bug too or just a random quirk of my fortress?

I didn't investigate the empty drinks stockpile. I don't think there are any known bugs regarding this, but numerous ways in which a player can cause this to happen, so it's probably caused by you in one way or another. The most common reason for things not being done is that the dorfs are doing other things of "higher" priority.

Accidentally hitting an "o-(something)" combination of keystrokes is also good for shutting off orders for dwarfs to haul certain item types without meaning to, although I don't think there's one specifically for drinks (probably just food in general). There's also the whole "I accidentally shut down the route between a stockpile and the stuff to go in it" thing (blocking the route with workshops/construction, accidentally removing stairs) which doesn't look like it's the case here, unless you accidentally locked the doors along the right wall of the stockpile area.

I do see a dwarf coming in with a wheelbarrow from the left, so is it possible you (accidentally or otherwise) added a wheelbarrow to your drinks stockpile? If you did, then only that one drink will be taken at a time into the stockpile via the wheelbarrow, rather than multiple idle dwarfs being able to fill the stockpile at once. And presumably if you add a wheelbarrow but don't actually HAVE an extra one to "attach" to the stockpile, nothing would be carried (although I'm assuming there, since it's possible it just wouldn't let you add the wheelbarrow or something in that case).

I believe dorfs haul even if wheelbarrows are missing (still restricting the number of jobs to the number of wheelbarrows). I've certainly seen them haul without using wheelbarrows that are actually available.
You can set up the number of wheelbarrows to use regardless of how many you actually have available.

omg, I've never ever realized wheelbarrows are bugged, this is really useful information, thanks!

That said, the stockpile in question doesn't have any wheelbarrows set.

And the dwarf with the wheelbarrow in question decided to bring a rye beer pot from the still aaaaaaaaaaall the way up to the very first temporary "accept everything" stockpile, set up like this.

But why?..

Although I have a possibly depressed dwarf (got possessed but I didn't have the required materials), he is currently dehydrated wandering about aimless ("No Job") -- is there an (easy) way to force-feed him water?

Hrm. I've noticed there are a lot of barrels scattered around your still as well. I don't usually feed from a workshop directly into a stockpile - maybe try removing the link from the workshop to the still to see if it helps? Because if a dwarf is coming from a farther away stockpile to carry the booze, there's probably something wrong going from the still to the closer stockpile. Since I don't generally link my stockpiles to a workshop I don't know if there's any weirdness taking from a still - like say (and this is just hypothetical wondering) if a barrel has a dwarf drinking from it before it can get moved, does it still count as coming directly from the still? I don't know. And at the very least the scattered barrels not in the still wouldn't (I'd think) get moved to the nearby stockpile.

Dumb question, but that still you circled IS the "diningstill," right? I see a lot of not only barrels but seeds scattered around, so it looks like one got demolished somehow possibly, maybe in a tantrum (at least, that's what I've seen scatter things around like that in my own fortress).

Edit: nevermind, I see it still also takes from anywhere, so... it should in theory still take those scattered barrels and such. Those ARE scattered seeds and not, say, accidentally channeled holes or something, right? I'm also not sure why a "take only from links" stockpile would be having stuff shipped in from random other places. Just... weird.

Yes, doesn't make sense.

A dorf who's failed a mood will die: it's fatal. It's just a matter of which kind of madness will claim it.

Edit: I took a look at the save, and for some reason stuff gets hauled to TemporaryMain, even though it shouldn't happen. Removing drinks from that stockpile causes jobs to haul to DiningBooze to appear.
