Plague ghoul?
« on: February 04, 2020, 04:39:49 am »

I got a goblin plague ghoul poet visiting. As soon as he stepped into the gate, he began to fight the few bards, poets, and sparring soldiers. And during the melee, all of them turned to "plague ghoul" except for a baby dwarf who had been riding her mother to starvation. Now the baby was crawling among a pile of "plague ghoul" corpses.

Is the blood contagious?(Then why is the dwarf not turning?) Can I let dwarves clean the blood without getting turned, assuming they wear shoes?

Is your world modded? You’re playing 47.01, right?

Did you embark in an evil area? This sounds like a husk, which can be contagious just from contact. It's possible this is something new, as the recent update added new necromancer "experiments"

Not modded, latest version, and yes it's an evil biome.

What does contact mean? Punching uncovered bodypart with bare fist? Are the corpses dangerous?

i'm guessing you're embarked in goblin territory, ghouls are a new thing that some goblin civ leaders do. The ghouls infect other creatures via attack, turning them into more ghouls. They're not contagious otherwise though, handling the bodies/cleaning the fluids should be safe.

Necros produce abominations instead. They're creatures called stuff like "Hand of gfeasa".

The "abominations" are actually not always hostile. They are probably just like mutants, but in a medieval fantasy setting. I have a Eye of someone human maceman who's been chilling in a pond outside the fort entrance since he arrived.

How exactly does "ghoul" infect? If one is hit by a weapon wielded by a ghoul, does he get infected?

Nope, has to be natural attack, probably bite.

If you want to find out more about that combat and the reports are no longer available in DF, you could open up your gamelog.txt and text search it, since the combat logs are in there.

I checked the gamelog.txt and it seems that scratching doesn't spread ghoulism but biting does.

In those combat reports, did it use the "I'm going to give this curse to everyone! Ha ha ha!" method? It would attack one dwarf until it lands an infectious attack, then it will target a new opponent.

The ghouls are hostile to each other. They fight until there's only one left.
