Autumn & Winter of Year 2

The year has come to a close, let us look back on these past few seasons and remember the good and the bad.


With our shiny new anvil, we crafted many a weapon.


With our shiny new weapons, we fought many a creature.


Our excavated (and walled off!) first cavern.


Even an undead siege wasn't enough to stop our dancing!


An undead siege, you say!?


Yes, it's Abli! He's back with his ghouls. I can hear them scratching through the walls.


They are killing everything! Those poor camels!


They even fought a harpy. . . thanks, I guess?


Well, at the very least this new shrine to our most beloved goddess The Helpful Saint will calm us down.

And so the new year arrives. A strange and terrible beginning, certainly, but our walls are holding firm and I see no reason to open the gates just yet. Maybe Abli and his horde will trundle off to some other target.

We have 19 dwarves and enough food and rooms. The dining hall is functional, we have two shrines, and the workshops are also functional (but disorganized). The cavern area I cleared out is safeish, but you have to be quick with the microcline drawbridge if a trap-immune creature arrives.

Military is training 2/3 of the time, and everyone is fairly busy with their work.

Thanks for reading! This one was kind of uneventful but I tried to dig deep to make it interesting. I have no idea where Bim went, and truthfully it was frustrating having my character lose the only other character they cared about, since I wasn't prepared to write that kind of emotion into the story but it would feel so very missing if I left it out. I like this Abli necro though, he's got some history. I'm worried that he might res all those camels. . .

Edit: If I forbid the door to it, a somewhat long hallway shouldn't cause too much lag, right?

Sorry for triple posting, but here's a mini-update:


1st Granite
Some weird dude took over the fortress.
I am that weird dude.

We start off in the middle of a siege, which is somewhat inconvenient for my wish to establish more of a foot hold aboveground.
Apparently these guys are somewhat already dead, which makes them slightly hard to drown.

5th Granite

I have a plan to reduce the threat, and all I need are a ton of mechanisms and maybe cages. The layout was invented by some person from an alternate universe country that was known for many things, but mostly being broke.

Turns out we have no mechanisms, which is slightly inconvenient. Time to start production of that as well.

4th Slate

Biggest thing is pretty obvious: there's zombies knocking on the door. I put notes on the stuff I built - such as the atom-smasher, and where the aquifer is. Salmeuk mentioned that the caverns are held off with a door and that you'll have to be quick with the lever to close the bridge - actually securing the place.

I think any exposed tiles cause a tiny bit of lag, even if locked away. It shouldn't be a problem with this incredibly small map, though. And is nothing compared to an exposed cavern.

Looking forward to seeing more!

Thanks! My plan is to dig out the labyrinth, fill it completely with stone-fall and maybe a few cage traps, and open it up to the surface. I've built a door between it and the staircase to forbid in case they manage to get through the thing. Once that problem is eliminated, I'll make a drawbridge for the outer entrance into the labyrinth, to trap in any future invaders. If still have time by the end of all that, I will try to build out an outer wall to secure a portion of the surface.

Also: It's been raining goo constantly in the green section of the above-world. Does it have syndromes?

That goo caused the fever that at least 6 dwarves are stuck with permanently... Further research has been avoided...

@auze Cage is probably better than stonefall; stonefall doesn’t take out things ‘one-hit’, so to speak; cage does.

We could go all the way; set up atom smashers in the halls, and set the linked lever to be pulled repeatedly. Continue until everything in the coridoor is gone. It’d be especially useful if We end up having to deal with lots of undead.

As far as I can tell Abli ran off, three of his soldiers still remain outside.

Anyway, things are going slowly so far, I am assembling a new update.
