Temple Petition?
« on: January 31, 2020, 07:12:32 pm »

Has anyone managed to get a temple petition yet? I've had guildhall requests, and I have lots of different gods who have more than 10 believers in the fort, but I have yet to receive a request for a temple, so I can appoint a priest.

What has your experience been thus far?

You need at least 10 worshipers of the same god before you get a temple request.  But there's nothing stopping you from making a temple to a specific god whenever you like.

Op says that's exactly what he has.
Have you seen a temple request yet?

What is the requirement for guildhall request?
10/25 unless you change the settings. Same as for temples.

I had a temple petition pretty early on, the religion had like 16 supporters.

10/25 means 10 dwarves with the skill and minimal population of 25?

No. The lower value is the number of worshipers/guild members required to enable a petition for the first level of the temple/guild hall, while the higher value is the threshold for a petition to upgrade to the large version.
I'm not sure if there's a "skill" restriction to be counted, nor if you can count towards multiple groups (e.g. dubious worshiper of X and ardent worshiper of Y).

I wonder if it's related to having members of an organized religion, and not simple worshippers of a god present. I have several gods with 15-18 worshippers in the fort, and several more that have 10-12 or so. Theres about 5 organized religion/cult names listed there but only two of them have people in my fort, and each one has only one dwarf member present. This is in a 90 dwarf fort. If you need members of the specific religion there first, then that seems a harder number to hit ten in. Might be something I turn down. Maybe just to test I'll set the temple requirement to 1, and see if one of those two cult members make a request of me.

For what it's worth I've had one temple petition so far, and it was from the "West Faith" which does in fact seem to be a religion rather than a god. Amusingly the autogenned location name for the temple was the North Church.

LOL. Thanks Storm, that points pretty strongly to the pre-requisites being an organized group, rather than individual worshippers.

I have had several Temple, and guildhall petitions. They feel pretty common with forts larger then 100 dwarves

i wish i could have those features too, but i just can't play it without dfhack/twbt and mouse support and some "convenience of use" scripts.
i hope the LNPs get updated soonish.

So, I've sorted out the temple/priest position availability stuff. Now that I have a priest/high priest, I've been watching them. Neither have done much but pray, etc. Has anyone seen their priests give sermons, or comfort stressed citizens, etc? Will they only comfort stressed people that are part of their own sect? My test sect is small, 7 worshippers. I changed the requirements for priest/high priest in the raws to 1 and 2, respectively, because I wanted to test the positions out. Anyways, curious what others have seen.

Side note to those who care...you do indeed need to declare a temple zone to a specific sect/religious group that exists in your fort (brought to your fort by your migrants), and not to an individual god. Once you've declared that zone, you can view it in locations. When there are enough worshippers to meet the requirements (default is 10, and 25), you can then recognize the position of priest, and then high priest, and assign someone to it (the way you would assign a tavern keeper, for example).

I've seen my priestess give sermons, that seem to give her and her listeners happy thoughts. I've not seen terribly much more activity yet. Does anyone know if the level of the temple affects the sorts of activities the sect gets up to?
