Non-violent gameplay
« on: January 26, 2020, 05:51:25 pm »

Hi! I’d like to play the adventurer mode in a way similar to how you play URW - be a hunter/gatherer, perhaps make some crafts, and trade with local settlements, make some friends in local taverns, and build a house. Is this a possibility in this game? Can one play a non-hero game?

EDIT: I’d love to play as a blacksmith too, is that a possibility?

It's a sandbox, play as you like.
But you'll want some crafting mods to make it worthwhile.

The other non-violent method is to be a bard. This works with the reputation system so is a little more satisfying. Although there's still a lot more to add to make it a reasonable game.

Which mod would you recommend? I’d really love to be either a blacksmith or a farmer.

This one seems reasonable:

I imagine Blacksmith as a game just wouldn't work though, because there's no structures in place to have people come buy stuff from you. And no economy.
Best you could do is build a forge (or go use one in a dwarf fortress) then go and trade stuff you make with people.

yeah barding around works, being an author if you can find a library is doable if you ....put points into reading and writing to kick off that set up.
then there's the whole build a camp site full of folks which is possible by messing with adv camps zone assignments and disbanding the assigned companions.
there also carpentry and trading said goods you made to folks.
and the fun fun nature of Running away from danger.
if you reach the caverns you could set up a camp site zone there that when you retire above ground(well you do this after setting up the adventurer's assign zone hopefully in the cavern zone you set up.) it takes you straight through to the caverns.
wander around the world and discover mountain peaks.

Making an underground camp is fun. Sadly my wish of running a criminal organization from down there has been put off for a while due to Steam. Hmph.

That'll be kind of "non-violent" gameplay too. No blood on my hands. :)

The world is a dangerous place, and both beasts and brigands may wish to claim your life for your ways of peace, i would hope that you choose a elf to make yourself immune to natural surface dwelling animals and even still not neglect weapons and armor albiet light as you like so you can defend yourself (or parry/block them with eight shields until you can run to safety).

By next version you'll be able to run around patting your own animal steed, though i wouldnt think wild animals would allow you to pet or ride them as a natural-loving elf but we'd have to see.

you're better off playing an spider-person so that you get to relax when a bogeyman shows up and probably help do performances and protect you for a bit. playing an elf just suppose to stop animals from attacking you but like.

you could also roleplay standing around as a fortress guard passing the time talking to the folks at the fort and sleeping and eating.

you mean bogeymen are going to be a BIG issue for me in 5(?) days given all the dang bogeyman research and mods and entity animal token stuff I set up just to make them Playable.

but enough about my future suffering and dread of wasted effort of research, and being reminded of said wasted effort and research let's talk about how with Dfhack you could tap into the fort mode mechanics with advfort.

because you can live out your days of being a blacksmith with advfort and it's means of playing a metal smithing.

Building an inn or something similar is an obtainable goal and is very peaceful, save for an occasional wild dingo.

Which is fine, as long as you aren't someone's baby.

They've been moved to biomes corrupted by goblin civ demons, I think.

Reading his name would trigger it. Thinking of him would trigger it. No other circumstances would trigger it- it was strictly related to the concept of Bill Clinton entering the conscious mind.

Yeah. They've also been given new powers, so I imagine this could only benefit playable bogeyman mods.

yeah I kinda cut out a rant about worrying about the percentage of them showing up to the world at all could bring not even talking about how being stuck in the evil region means either getting husk zombies, reanimated undead animals and bogeymen happening all at once or you just get to roll the die and get one of them Which probably worst for me and even worst for folks wanting to be husk zombies

but like I think exploring the world and talking to folks is a good pacifist run idea hearing about their day and what not.
