Evil biomes suggestion: Raining creatures
« on: January 25, 2020, 03:17:47 pm »

There has been numerous reports of rains consisting of fish, frogs, etc. (most likely caught in some sort of tornado and literally blown away) in the real world. How about bringing it to DF as a evil biome feature?
Except it could be raining ANY creature at all and it would be dependent on how sturdy the creature is if they survive it or not (normal fall damage rules would apply). In case of raining sentients, they would have a random inventory on them.
I think it would give very high amounts of FUN to the players embarking on such biomes, especially if it would start raining giant elephants or dragons.

If I say something funny, don't ask if you can sig it. Just do it (though credit me).

With slowdown pathing issues as they are, I can't recommend dropping real creatures from the sky - but vermin don't path and would be fitting for a horrifying biome.

Dead on arrival i would think would be easiest, remains of some sloppy blood-slug like creatures.

Dead on arrival. Until bits of it get back up. Very Fun.

I would suggest rains of body parts.

It is raining troll eyes!

Vermin and some body parts seems possible and fitting.

@delphonso I think pathing performance is something Toady would have to address sooner or later, especially considering how crazy fortresses players are making and I've even made a suggestion that (if implemented) could lead to both better performance and more realistic behaviors (e.g. raiders won't magically know where everything is unless they either have ESP mage with them or their scouts came back alive). And I think implementing proper creature rains could push him in this direction.
