How do I actually complete a raid?
« on: January 20, 2020, 01:12:49 pm »

My soldiers are going, and not returning. They are being captured for some reason. How do I get my troops to not get captured?

We could just lie on all of our maps, or we could flood Europe.
The standard sense of Mario is that he won't murder someone but isn't good enough to not smash bugs. This is engraved into everyone’s mind.
There was one slight problem with the climb, and that was the spontaneous combustion.

The less you send, the lower the chance of them spotting you (assuming you're just trying to steal stuff and not launching an attack on a massive site).

Ambusher skill helps with being stealthy too as I recall.

See my answer earlier in your other thread. Truly dead civs can't raid.

Send them of sufficient strength, and carefully select the militia captain leading the troupe as they'll influence the effectiveness of the squad for the kind of mission you are undertaking.

Quote
If you are sneaking to steal, put a experienced sneaker in charge (a ex hunter migrant with pre-built ambusher is often fine) and dont send other squads as they'll blow your cover unless they also have sneaking captains & moderately skilled units, hunting animals can also sneak quite well.

If you are fighting, put a skilled tactician with some decent personal skills to lead the assault and maybe help them out by assigning other squads to the same mission. Leadership is a important statistic for keeping it holding together held seperately to tactics which shows the odds of swinging one way or the other.

And if you're requesting a tribute or surrender, come fully armed to a weakened site (which can be done soon as you're done razing it yourself) and put someone with intimidator/persuader in charge of the squad. Fully armed squad should repel a attack and achieve what you were looking to do if they react in a hostile manner, you were polite enough to ask first though

It sounds like all your dwarves before were captured or killed (overwhelmed), hence the report hasn't come back to you yet on how badly it went, but a rumor or news should reach you eventually within a season of the expected time they should have arrived.

Weel, three of them had no shields, and  all of them only had TRAINING AXES, and the only one wearing armor aside from civvie clothes was the militia commander and that was a copper mail shirt from embark. So yeah, maybe all five  of them died because of poor equipment and the fact that even the commander was only Competent SWORDSDWARF. NOT AXEDWARF.

But, are you playing a dead civ?
In that case your raid is lost. Everything else is meaningless.

No. If one was a dead civ, most likely it would just be the one. I mean, it is like a one in a trillion chance of all five seperate forts on three different worlds from different civs being from dead civs. Chances are not one of them are dead, and probably only one, max.

If raws were edited any, it's not impossible that some change would lead to consistently dead civs.

Weel, Meph should have worked those bugs out if they ever occured. The only mod I am using is Masterwork. Since he is a reputed modder of DF, he should not have any of those kinds of changes in his mod.
