Found a spot, naturally it's cold and frozen, not a lot of trees.
Guess I'll explain my interpretations of the rules, naturally, my fort must be a tower, above ground, to me, this means I can still dig underground for stone/gems/metal but I can't build anything there.
Here's what I'm bringing, as a side note, I've never, up until now, embarked in cold areas....it's fairly obvious if you look at what I brought for embarking, mostly egg layers, 3 picks and underground seeds...
Here was my skill setup.
3 Miners
A craftsdwarf
An manger/bookkeeper Dwarf
A grower/building designers
A appraiser that could double as fisherdwarf
Notice that I don't have any masons....
Welcome to FrozenTower! Immediately I notice how absolutely SMALL it is, I mean, I knew it was 1x1 but I was not ready.
For reference, here's the resolution I ended up playing with.
I also noticed real quick that the area was not completely frozen, had trees, and could also be plowed for plants.
If you couldn't tell I'm really beating myself over how horrible I planned for this.
You can see two things here, one, I'm building a farm, even though I don't have any outdoor seeds yet, it's better to be ready. And two, I just realized that my only building material is the wood I brought to be used for beds, if I don't want to burn through my wood supply, I need to start digging, and fast.
I started channeling to find stone, and as I haven't messed around with that, I don't really know what I'm doing, also some horses showed up.
I'm fairly certain that this area didn't have an aquifer....this could be bad
Oh yeah...that's bad, that's real bad, I have no idea how to deal with aquifers, and no idea whether this a heavy or light one.
Not sure when this happened, but it's really not a good sign, it looks like channeling leads to cave ins a bit too much for my taste.
That's another channel, trying to find out exactly where this aquifer is...I'm starting to think that pits that go straight down don't have slopes in them. I think I'll build some stairs over it.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH.
Well, not much has happened, but my inexperience is clearly showing itself, hands up, who think this fort will be dead by winter?
