Is it a good idea to use wheelbarrows with a food stockpile?

To wheelbarrow, or not to wheelbarrow?  That is my question.

Usually not.

The intended use of a wheelbarrow is to speed up hauling of heavy items, and apart from the very occasional giant stack of meat from a butchered FB you're not going to haul very heavy items to food stockpiles. For light items you probably make things take longer, as the hauler first has to go to the stockpile to pick up the wheelbarrow before going to pick up the item to be hauled (which may well result in backtracking more or less to the starting position en route to the item). If you insist on making lead or gold barrels for your booze you may actually get yourself heavy booze barrels, though...

A secondary use for wheelbarrows is that it restricts the number of concurrent hauling jobs to that stockpile, which may be of use for niche situations.

Note that wheelbarrows in minecart feeder stockpiles (in particular ones part of a QSP) is a bad idea due to the bug that causes wheelbarrows to be tossed into the minecart, dumped at the destination, hauled back to the feeder stockpile, chucked into the minecart...
