You walk up to the porch, and before the mayor can even stand up, you knock him out with a single punch.
You aren't exactly sure how you did it. Your mind remembers passing the villager on the way here, and then you were in front of the mayor. All you know is, you're standing in front of the mayor, whose head thuds to the porch with a solid sound.
You don't waste any time. You grab the keys off his belt loop, unlock his handcuffs, and gag him. Then you stuff two more in his mouth, just in case he attempts to bite. You grab his rifle, and the other two sets of keys.
"Please, sir. What are you doing? I don't understand!" the mayor says.
"Shut up. You're not getting anything out of me," you reply.
You start to leave, but the mayor once again begins to struggle.
"What the heck are you doing?" you ask.
The mayor's body pushes up against your leg, but you're able to kick it aside.
"Stop it!"
It continues to struggle. You're not sure if you should just break his arms or something.
Then, a villager runs up to you and punches you in the back of the head. You fall to the ground...
Then, you grab a hold of the mayor and run off.
"Villager! Do something!" the mayor shouts.
You don't have time to deal with this right now. You've wasted enough time.
You get back up to your feet, and run off with the mayor hanging from one of your arms.
"Please, sir! Let me go!" he cries.
You gun him down as you head towards the woods. You enter the trees, focusing on distance between you and the mayor as you go. You hear the mayor continue to yell behind you, before it gets drowned out by the sounds of the woods.
You walk on for a while, putting more and more distance between you and the mayor. You hope this works.
Eventually, you spot a faint glow in the horizon. It must be a village. You hope they have a jail, because you're going to need it.
Can't risk the mayor asking any uncomfortable questions about my mysterious past. Best to assault him and gag him before he can dare say hello. Not like the whole reason I went to see him was to find some answers, or anything like that. Gotta kidnap him so he can't follow me with his questions. No good, I can't seem to lose him. Maybe if I shoot him I can finally gain some distance from him. Deranged psychopaths like that mayor ought to be locked up before they can hurt people, I tell ya.
"Oh! I have so many questions!" he says. "What season is it? What day is it? What time is it? Are you a boy or a girl? Do you have a name? How old are you? I have so many questions! So many, and I'm tired. Would you mind if I slept for a little while? In the bed? I have five dogs who need walk, you see. They're all greatogs. Their names are Churchill, Stalin, Mao, Nagasaki, and Pekin. I've had them for many years, but they get scared very easily. I'd like to walk them tomorrow, but I'm too tired. Could you possibly walk them for me? It would be such a kindness."
"Okay," you say.
"Thank you! Thank you, my sweet! You're too kind," he says. "I've had the same four dogs for over twenty years. They love me, you see. Oh, they love me. They don't care that I'm blind as a bat. Oh no. The love that these dogs have for me is the only thing that keeps me going. I'd be better off dead, many times over. If you were to ask them, they'd say so. If you were to ask the police, they'd say so. If you were to ask God, He'd say so. But I know the answer. I just wish it was otherwise, that's all."
Naturally, my character made a mental note that this stranger's house contained no pictures of me or my family. Something
really off about that.
