What do migrants from older forts bring with them?
« on: December 05, 2019, 07:29:47 pm »

If I generate a world and start and retire (or abandon) forts, I know that migrants will sometimes come from the previous ones with skills and injuries.  What else do they bring?  Pets?  Assigned war animals?  Military Equipment?

Lesson learned. Ensure complete destruction of first fortress before starting next (or play Adventurer).

They also have a tendency to bring what they were hauling at the point of retirement (such as a piece of mined rock). I suspect it might be possible to exploit this to get items to be brought to your new fortress.

I had once a warrior from a previous fortress with an artifact sword on him but it was a long time ago.

They bring their wounds and scars.

This makes me wonder: Why don't brand new dwarves ever arrive wounded or scarred? I would imagine that some small percentage of your migrants would bring some scar or limp.

They do.
Histfigs pick up scars and missing limbs (and tongues) in battles during worldgen.
Dwarves generated from population pools for migration probably don't get them though. So, the longer your world history, the more likely it is you'll see this.

And if you're lucky you'll witness the coming of the headless dwarf (if that bug hasn't been fixed yet). Lost his head in worldgen, somehow failed to register as dead (time catches up pretty quickly when he arrives at your fortress though).
