A polar bear man scholar keeps stealing my library books
« on: November 24, 2019, 02:29:28 pm »

This time, I tried to target him for death on my squad screen, but I got a long list of scholars, none of whom were listed as polar bear men.  (I had written down the name of the last polar bear man scholar to visit my fortress.)

How can I get this guy?

On average, scholars probably leave more books behind than they steal. If they had one when they arrived they'd have to drop that one to take one of yours, scholars also write books occasionally (assuming you've got the materials available), although sometimes they arrive without a book and leave with one... I don't bother, though.

The only way to murder him with the current release is to wait until he returns to the fortress.

I tend to prevent that with the double library method.
One for my Hoppleheads that contains al the books
and one for the visitors where they can write as many books as they want.
Avoids the stealing issue since they dont have access to the books.

If he is in your fort but you cannot target him with soldiers, try to lock him between doors to trap him, then you can proceed from there (drowning, dropping, etc).

There is something to be said about, if the stakes are as high, maybe reconsider your certitudes. One has to be aggressively allistic to feel entitled to be able to trust. But it won't happen to me, my bit doesn't count etc etc... Just saying, after my recent experiences I couldn't trust the public if I wanted to. People got their risk assessment neurons rotten and replaced with game theory. Folks walk around like fat turkeys taunting the world to slaughter them.

Ah.  In this case, I won't worry about it.  Thank you for pointing this out (and thanks also for the other responses).
