Spoiler: Map (click to show/hide)
In the early spring of 31, a trio of dwarves arrived in the valley. They could be called the first of their kind, certainly first in the region. Thirty years had passed since the great dwarven tribes began spreading throughout the continent, but this valley had so far been untouched.

The settlers' names were Rith, Zefon and Momuz. They befriended a seemingly-intelligent, arboreal creature, about the size of a dwarf, whose chittering made no sense to them but who pointed them towards local caves. Throughout the year, Rith, Zefon and Momuz made camp and hunted. They knew little of prospecting, but dwarven instincts told them this could be the place. The Place mentioned in legends, where riches lay under the earth. Next year was time to find out.

***

Far below, a Triton woke up. The Triton's name was Gloomf. There was a rush of water echoing throughout the tunnels, Gloomf followed it and found a new tunnel. Driven, much like dwarves, by instinct, Gloomf led her pack into the new waters, ending up in a subterranean sea, rife with blind fish, coral and fungi thriving on the Warmth-From-Below.

As she stared into a glowing rock she found underwater, things became clear. This must be the place. The Place mentioned in legends, where revelation was promised. But until it was found, Gloomf had to ensure the pack survived to witness it. So they started building, building the first city of their kind.

If Gloomf knew numbers, she might've designed a new calendar starting with the founding of the city. But she did not, and so we will refer to events using the dwarven calendar.

(Continuing later today...)

Not only that, but from the looks of the map the Dwarves and the Tritons will have to cross each other's paths to get to their "special" resource. That'll be interesting.

Question: is that line of orange magma or gold? I'm inclined to say magma, but it's hard to tell.

Well, the dwarf option promised a vein of gold. The amphibian option promised an underground river with gems. I figured those are the two new features we see.

The Dawn of Civilization
« Reply #39 on: November 08, 2019, 10:30:19 am »

The Age of Civilization is nigh!
Here I'm going to emulate Legends mode style for a while.
Spoiler: Map (click to show/hide)
Zefon Domasèrith (Zefon Guildlaborious) was a male dwarf. He was one of the first of his kind.
In 31, Zefon settled in Asteshdatan, "Cudgelirons".
In 32, Zefon led a mining expedition into the depths, discovering an underground river.
In 32, two floodgates were created by Zefon in Asteshdatan and used to assist in rerouting the river.
In 32, Zefon and his associates discovered a vein of gold below the settlement.
In 33, Zefon married Ilral Tobulamost. Ilral's extended family had just arrived in Asteshdatan, increasing population.
In 34, Zefon was elected mayor and both dwarven families now living in the area set out mining to fund expansion.
Choose: dwarves may now expand east (towards the Tritons), or west (towards the primordial caves).

Gloomf of the Spore-Tree Brood was a female triton. She was one of the first of her kind.
In 31, Gloomf discovered an expansive underground sea connected to her home pond.
In 31, Gloomf commanded her brothers to build a city, naming it Yantar'Eryovl, "Crystalflow".
In 32, Gloomf settled in Yantar'Eryovl.
In 33, Gloomf raised nineteen of her offspring, increasing population.
In 34, Gloomf sent out scouts in search of new places to colonize.
In 34, the expedition returned, bringing news of yellow metal that would not rust, but no new water sources.
The Tritons' priority is finding more water, so they will ignore the gold (for now) and continue searching.

Question: is that line of orange magma or gold? I'm inclined to say magma, but it's hard to tell.
It is gold.

Glass is, as usual, correct.
Yep, as ever, I bestow upon Glass the expected +1
I'm gonna say we go with whatever Glass's idea is.

I don’t know yet, I just hope they are as friendly to the amphibians as they are to chittering tree creatures
