What music do you listen to while you play?
« on: October 07, 2019, 01:08:48 pm »

The default song is fantastic and perfectly thematic, but it gets old after a few hours months years. What do you listen to to fill the silence? I personally like Russian and German folk songs, since they kinda sound like the dwarves language. Song of the Volga River boatmen I think sounds the best for DF. What about you?

I used to listen to music from the first Stronghold game.  Under an Old Tree is one of my favorites, and Stix and Stones is good for sieges.

Maybe not the most fitting for Dwarf Fortress, but it worked for me.

The game music is great for short play sessions, but for the long haul I change over to
“When The Morning Light Shines In” from Far Cry 5 for its sedate but animated melody: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hcGjc_bmjEM

For more energetic tunes:
“Inner animal” and “Miami disco” from Hotline Miami:

And, as contractually obligated, Diggy Diggy Hole: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ytWz0qVvBZ0

Take a look at:

Broville v11: For being the most detailed Minecraft city ever.
Zero punctuation: For the roasting of one video game a week, with vulgarity, profanity, and hilarity.
Dwarf fortress: For- oh, oh, nevermind.

For fort mode my favourite track is probably the complete "Song of Durin" by Clamavi De Profundis. I've already mentioned my fondness for them in the adventure mode music thread, and this is likely their dwarfiest song IMO.

I actually have a youtube playlist especially for DF sessions, haha.
It also features a lot of Stronghold tracks, some LotR soundtrack and some other stuff.
I should expand it a little bit, its about 1 1/2h long i reckon. But didn't get around playing a lot of DF lately, so..

I throw on Soundsense and call it a day. Either that, or my YT playlist on shuffle.

If I'm not recording, it's random music. Whatever I've been YouTubing lately. Which these days is a mix of VnV Nation and K-Pop.

I fire up soundsense and sing along to Simon Swerwer's "Danger Room". Doesn't everyone?

I honestly have been listening to the music of soundsense GTK as if I had no other option.  I've been playing for five years and have just joined the forum and seen this post.  Thanks for blowing my musical possibilities open; it's weird how I could not think of that for such a vast period of time.
