I mean, we don't need to construct a base to explore a planet. Having a base poses some advantages for exploration but it's not necessary. But by "similar utility" I mean in terms of what we still need after getting a ship. Basically, it's easier to make up the "lost" advantages of a surface base than it is to build a new ship.

First off, A. We can get ourselves a planet later. If we had to go with a planet-bound option, then out of its world options, I prefer D.

Now, my character...

Glass is, as usual, correct.
Yep, as ever, I bestow upon Glass the expected +1
I'm gonna say we go with whatever Glass's idea is.

I vote for ship, because fun exploration and pillaging.

I would suggest, for those of us going for a planetbound option, to avoid going for a planet of ruins. Rather not be sitting on anything valuable on the game start, since that gives more motive for other orders and such to start mucking about near us.

Alright, what about CA?
We could gain influence in a city, maybe get people to think the Sith aren’t as bad as the Jedi propaganda says we are

As MM said in Discord, based on our characters, we at least really aren't.

I would recommend not painting a gigantic "STAB HERE" marker on our collective backs by announcing the presence of a Sith order in a location the Jedi would be capable of discovering us in.

That gets us no ruins, no meaningful population, and...safety, I guess? Kind of lame on all counts, really. We're an order of Sith, we should have no trouble with more risky options if we play it intelligently.

I'm going to change my main vote to A. What's the point of being sith if we can't play with the cool toys.

But if we do go for a planet l'm still voting D

I think A is currently in the lead, starting in orbit over a death world. So you’re ship (or base) will come with a specialized department.

A. A Dark Nexus: A ritual center allowing the coordination of large scale force rituals. Comes with a company (roughly 100) of Acolytes trained in its use.

B. Advanced War Center: A command and training center for elite soldiers. Comes equipped with advanced arms and equipment on par with the finest soldiers in the Empire. Comes with a regiment (roughly 1000) marines.

C. Intelligence Center: A hub stocked with listening and communication equipment allowing the coordination of an information gathering service. Greatly improves information gathering and covert efforts. Stay up to date on information around the galaxy, and comes with a company of Intelligence Agents.
