The Lone Defender is flung to the ground by Otiros' bolts, but rather than blood, his wounds emit a gentle blue light. His final summoned spirit vanishes in a flash of the same, but it seems the guardian has a little more time left.

Otiros lowered his crossbow and moved closer to double check if the job was done.
"Guess he is still hanging. Mind to tell us what were you guarding now?"

The blue light spread slowly outward from the wounds that Otiros had inflicted. "If you don't know... Then your master must have sent you here with something to tell you what to seek."

"Oh! Right! My turn then, right?"

Ciera was not exactly... healthy. But she'd managed a swig of one of the concotions they'd brought along for healing, so she managed to get up and limp up the stairs to the throne room. Holding out the crystal, she looked to see where she could find a reaction.

And she found it almost immediately in the deck of cards held by the guardian. His body continued to dissolve, and he offered no further resistance.

"I suppose you can tell your master that they have bested mine." With the deck gone, the breakdown of the defender's body accelerated, until the last shimmering motes of blue light were gone as well.

Alec takes a minute as he gradually walks up towards the throne room, playing the Charming Flute to heal those he passed by.
: "...Well, that was a slog and a half. Anyone less prepared likely wouldn't have got through this."

"Indeed."

Vahn looked around the tower, now empty save his companions. The last living place in a dead world had fallen silent as well. Perhaps it was just as well for it to end; all things had to, some day. There was no guilt in bringing final respite to a world that had long been in need of it, and in so doing save many others.

"Let us collect anything of use and return."

"I want to leave this godforsaken place. This is. . . I don't like this." Hoshiko returned her knives to their sheathes and unstrung her bow, turning to walk out of the building. Her posture drew in on herself, and the easy grace with which she moved had weakened as if she carried a great weight.

Julius heard the sounds of battle coming from outside the storage room fade to silence. The guardian must have been finally defeated. No longer feeling so rushed, he turned his attention back to opening the remaining chest. Still he couldn't help but feel, not as celebratory as he would have liked. They had essentially after all, ended all that remained of this realm. With nothing but silence left, and nobody out there to tell the tale of what had become of this world. He couldn't help but look upon the walls of the keep and wonder about the people who had built it.

"Miss Iris, perhaps you could paint a picture of this place? A memorial of sorts."

The old warlock stood still for a moment, eyes closed. In the stillness of the dead world, he could easily hear all of his companions moving about. Some louder than others, of course. Much louder. He yawned and stretched, then started looking around the place. As he had suggested, if there was anything left of use, it might as well be in their hands. No one else was left for it.

Julius opens the remaining chest. It is filled with old, rusted weapon heads and the remains of rotted wood. One piece stands out from the rest, in excellent condition. Julius gets Rex Hasta!

Just like with the group's last battle, bits of memory began to appear at the corners of their minds. Not as flashes of memory, but a sudden ability to remember, as if they had always been there. Memories of home, friends, and loved ones. Although, Julius, Alec, Alexander and Gregor remembered less than others, Ciera's mind recovered nothing...

As Ciera held the jewel close to the deck of cards, the glow of the crystal she held intensified, then began blinking. As before, the portal from the Nexus opened.

"Ah, excellent. Now, I'm ready to-" The guardian stopped short, taking in the disarray and damage visible on those nearest to the portal. "What happened? Did something go wrong?"

"There was a guardian left."

Vahn paused for a moment for effect, as was his wont.

"Was."

"Where are we headed next?"

"There was? That shouldn't have been the case, the only living things on that world right now are all of you. There was no one left when you arrived." Friedhelm seemed honestly confused, and walked away from the field of view of the portal.
