Get material from reagent :A:NONE.

Thanks. I will try it out.

I am thinking of adding the following mythic rarity (extremely rare) fish to the temperate freshwater biome:

Wels Catfish   Catfish      TEMP_RIVER_LAKE         Mythic
Giant Alligator Gar   Gar      TEMP_RIVER_LAKE         Mythic
Beluga Sturgeon   Sturgeon      TEMP_RIVER_LAKE_COAST         Mythic
White Sturgeon   Sturgeon      TEMP_RIVER_LAKE_COAST         Mythic

If caught live these fish can get up to 400, 300, 1,000 and 2,500 lbs respectively.

There could also be some variations in shelled molluscs that give more valuable shells (like mother-of-pearl) for decoration/crafts.
This made me think about rarely colored shellfish, like blue lobsters and half-blue lobsters! Maybe their shells could be more expensive and give happy thoughts but have the same physical properties.
Is it possible to make an animal's color variation rarer while still making it the same species and possible to appear in the same populations?

Cool idea. I will add these when I get to the ocean biome.

I believe it is possible to set a specific color scheme to a caste within a species. It is also possible to make that caste rarer than the others. Unfortunately, I believe the material value would be creature specific unless I created a unique reaction for the caste variants or figured out a creative way to get around it.

I could just make them a separate species though. The only thing it would effect is that they would only be able to breed with others of the same color.

I know. ;)

It looks at the creature and takes the material the corpse is made from, which curiously enough isn't meat, but bone. I made a lot of parts that way in my necromancer mod. :)

I'll have a look at making a quick set of sprites for the fish processing workshop (is that a good name?) that matches my tileset and the steam set. Can't do much about the creature graphics, because they are vermin and currently vermin don't use creature sprites but tiles from the regular tileset in data/art, and TWBT doesn't allow overrides for them.

Mh... but the tool could get a sprite. :)

New list for freshwater temperate rivers and lakes (118). I think I got most of them this time. Let me know if there are any you would like to see added.

I don't understand why you'd want so many different fish. I get that some similar fish are going to be vastly different sizes, or will inhabit different biomes. But for crying out loud, 14 bass types alone? Is there a meaningful difference between even half of them? Why do I want my stocks filled up with a glut of names? For the most part it's distinction without a difference. I'd prefer to get rid of most of these, for instance striping the bass list to the following: Rock Bass (temperate), Black Bass (tropical). I just don't understand wanting all this variety for nothing more than names. Also, many of these fish are so small that I don't see the point in catching them unless you're going to introduce a bait mechanic (minnows? seriously?).

I see your point, but as a fisherman IRL I really like seeing these fish in game. All of those types of bass are common when bass fishing. The other fish are common as well (except for the lamprey, eels, mussels and suckers).

I do get what you are saying with minnows though, but at this point, this mod has become more of an animal crossing collector type mechanic. From a base builder game mechanic point of view these fish are just names with no meaningful difference in terms of fort survival, but from a collection/trophy hunter point of view, the fish have a wide variety of locations, seasons and rarities.

The minnows were originally added as a way to "buffer" the game fish rarity (as there is no "you didnt get a bite" mechanic), but they have become part of the animal crossing esc collection book. And fish are presumably caught by hand, net or pole so it isn't too hard to visualize their capture.

After weeks of development, I would now say that this mod is for players that would like to see a wide variety of fish added to their game or players that enjoy an animal crossing esc collection mechanic. This mod is not focusing on fort survival/utility and is mainly focused on the actual fish (not the fish industry).

With that said, this mod has been constructed in a very unique way. With one tag you can remove all minnows from the mod...

Here is the final line up for the tropical freshwater fish (142). I have the foundation in place, so I am now just plugging them in. Once these are in, I will move onto the ocean fish.

I decided that I am going to make all fish/fish like creatures vermin except for sharks, dolphins and whales.

Are those sprites you were using with the steam release tileset? They look good.

These sprites are my own, from/for the Meph tileset. Free to use by anyone, steam or not.

brolol: Didn't knew which one you prefer, just pick one. ;) I decided to forgo the tools in the workshop for the most part, otherwise it would look like my fishery. I picked tons of different tiny fish, to show that it's about the variety and large number of types you'll add.

Tool comes in two variants: a board, to put on a pedestal/display, and a stand-alone display rack sprite.

It's hard to pick one. I like using the most possible fish even if dwarves have to climb over tables to get in lol I'll think on it. Do you have the table/bowl with no fish layer sprite?

These are really cool. Is it possible to make a stand-alone display rack in game? What item token would it be? furniture?
