Dwarf dehydrated how to hydrate?
« on: July 27, 2019, 03:39:07 pm »

So my brewer is dehydrated of all dwarves. How do I get my dwarves to give the poor fellow a drink?

I have booze, buckets and cups.

In the past I never managed to get them a drink so they just died :(

If they are in the hospital, you need a source of water and an empty bucket (so another dwarf can bring them water).

If they are not in a hospital, usually you only need booze (they like goblets but do not need them), but also:
- they need to be able to path to it (so if they are locked in, or stuck in a tree, you need to help them with that)
- they need to have at least one hand to grab the barrel
- they need to not be insane, depressed, etc

The first thing to determine is why they are not going to get the booze...

To expand on the "if in hospital" a bit.

Dwarves that have really minor injuries that shouldn't stop them in any to get a drink themselves,  will still lay in the hospital and refuse to drink anything but water. In that case disabling/removing the hospital zone would result in them going to the nearest booze barrel.

Bring Kobold Kamp to LNP! graphics compatibility fix.

So the conclusion I'm getting here is that we use QSPs because dwarves can't pilot submarines.

Dwarves bring only water to those thirsty, never booze, so if you don't have any source of potable water they won't bring any booze. However, as others have said, your first task is to figure out why the brewer won't get something to drink.
It can also be mentioned that they don't actually need any hands to drink directly from a barrel, but if they can't grasp, they'll still grab a mug and then sit and stare at the barrel until they die, because they can't use the mug, but won't let go: you have to forbid all mugs available to the victim to get the bugger to drink (every time there's a need to drink, which is a pain: if the cause won't heal over time, you ought to consider sending the victim to a hillock to save you the trouble of the micro managing required for each drinking session).

Might have just been a bit busy.

Dorfs usually get a bit thirsty/hungry/tired before drinking/eating/sleeping.

Quite normal to have a few in those states for a while, before they tend to their own needs.

Hungry/Thirsty/Drowsy, yes, but they won't get to Starving/Dehydrated/Extremely Drowsy (not sure if the last is the term used in the game) without there being a problem blocking them from tending to their needs.

Stop any tasks they are carrying out, and make sure that water is available.
