I feel like lying to potential followers is kinda not in our god's purview.

"C" is also potentially psychically damaging. Let's not go there unless this guy seems really dubious.

And we'll never get better at psychic manipulation without practice and experimentation. If we establish a proper rapport, our very newness as a god is all the proof he needs that we are no part of the ancient discord.

What if we tell the truth, then when he has questions, direct the answers into his mind. Then we still get practice on our psychic abilities

You lack experience in the art of transmitting thought, and deem the danger of its intricacies gone awry too damning to consider. It may be distressingly mundane but the circumstance is supernatural enough, and the least cowardly Osterat is stunned into silence as you speak with a voice more akin to the whistling of wind than any mortal tongue.

”Mortal, I am none other than Eroth, God of Discovery.”

Quote from:  Reaction of the Osterat
Rolling 1d20: 2

His soul emanates the most profound aura of fear you’ve ever felt, and you marvel that this mortal hasn’t fallen dead from a sudden heart attack. Rather than flee, he steels himself and stands, raising an impudent finger with all the vengeful wrath of a thousand doomed souls. Not a trace of his earlier anxiety mars his words, though you sense it is no less present. ”And Dhiruer was the God of Knowledge... Either ye be a spawn, or worshiping ye plays right into his hands. Idol, get ye gone or smite me where I stand.”

This went worse than you’d anticipated.

How should you react to this display of defiance?

A) Sunder his mind and see his corpse rendered ashes, this situation is beyond salvaging.
B) Assure him that you are a new deity, unaffiliated with Dhiruer in any way whatsoever.
C) Offer to make him a prophet, this kind of resolve is nothing less than awe-inspiring.
D) Transfer a replica of your relevant memories into his mind, to tell him the truth.
E) Play along with plenty of sinister sound effects, infamy is better than obscurity.
F) Do something else entirely. [Specify]

"'Dhiruer?' Dhiruer means nothing to me!"

Fill the mortal's mind with knowledge of all we are, and all we could become. Let him taste the faintest echo of the joy we feel at the learning of new lands, new sights, new sounds. Put a wanderlust in his heart; let the room glow with an unearthly fire.

Annd... here's hoping he doesn't "headsplode" on us.

B, plus stating that we hadn’t even heard of a “Dhiruer” until we encountered them, and also that we have only recently arrived in this realm from our home plane.

Yep, as ever, I bestow upon Glass the expected +1
I'm gonna say we go with whatever Glass's idea is.

D These people have lived too long in mistrust for anything less.

(And if A happens due to the force we must use, well, the situation probably was beyond salvage.)

+1 maybe add a taste of our disgust that a god of knowledge would cause such destruction. Destroying threats is one thing, but worship must be earned.

Hm, I should add: we aren't trying to forcibly alter this guy's personality-- we're just trying to show him exactly who we are and what we're about. More of a really eloquent argument than an outright brainwashing.

This isn’t brainwashing. He can interpret the thoughts as he wishes. We are just showing him, not telling him what to think of them
