The Tale of Color of the Grand Fleet:

Quote
In normal circumstances, Tales of Color are painted before a finished ship or boat is lowered into the sea, giving the boat days of construction time as the paint was added and then as it dried, even if Inithar had long, long developed paints that don't wash away -- Inithari prided themselves on their craftsmanship and precision, after all, so even a little marring was unacceptable. But the Grand Fleet was not formed under normal circumstances; the very survival of Inithar was on the line, and delays needed to be minimized if the Grand Fleet were to provide Inithar with the tools for survival.

That's what led to one ambitious journeyman of the Painters' Fellowship to put a scaffold over the INFS Kaipo'u as the Fleet sailed to the fabled land of Harren, and begin his work, a painstaking but inspired process which would last a not-insignificant portion of the journey. He wasn't alone in this -- several other of the members of the Painters' Fellowship did similar works on other ships. But the work on the Kaipo'u drew eyes, for what it was was a Tale of Color representing the entire Grand Fleet of Inithar -- and quite the controversy it was for a while, with members of major fellowships sometimes quibbling over who deserved more or less representation, and members of minor fellowships grousing about not being included.

Nonetheless, views changed as the journey towards Harren continued -- a fleet of the appalling nation of Embral was spotted also on the way to that strange continent, and the grimness of the whole situation once again settled down on them. To save Inithar, they were going to have to unite, and they really were going to have to fight, and they were going to have to not be stopped -- the survival of their very homeland depended on it. And in that light, the message of the Tale of Color really began to resonate with the members of the Grand Fleet: the fellowships, together, in a straight and unbroken shot towards their future. What had been controversial rapidly became inspiring, a rallying point for the craftsmen and warriors on the Fleet; their path was clear, and they would take it, no matter the obstacles. (A certain young painter's status within his Fellowship, by the way, got quite the boost).

As for what the Tale of Color actually means -- the lines progressing through the Tale from left to right each represent one of the primary fellowships involved in the Grand Fleet of Inithar and the then-upcoming war. The silver line represents the Refocyte-smiths' Fellowship, the line deviating from its path to represent Inithar's Folly, and returning to represent the strength it gained back in the transition from caste to fellowship. The dark brown represents the Miners' Fellowship (something that in truth covers all gatherers of resources, including woodcutters and petroleum workers). The orange line represents the Chemists' Fellowship (which contains all physical scientists, to many physicists' ire). The dark blue line represents the Naval Fellowship. The green line represents the Army Fellowship. The light blue line represents the Air Force Fellowship -- which came into existence only during the war against the Great Powers, with the invention of the A1 'Iwa. The dark grey line represents the Mechanists' Fellowship, descended from the caste of blacksmiths. The yellow line represents the Painters' Fellowship. The red line represents the Doctors' Fellowship. And last and in fact arguably least, the light brown line represents the Woodworkers' Fellowship.

The lines of each fellowship amble their way through the gold of Inithar's age of prosperity and trade (the Tale of Color essentially represents the 19th century and on) and the bloody red of the war with the Coalition, but they come together in the Grand Fleet to suddenly become a straight shot into the edges of the Tale, through the blue of the ocean, and to the white of the rumored icy caps of Harren, united and without distraction, moving into the future.

Revision Phase, Hot Season 1938 AC

Proposal: Haaheo Rebalanced
Quote
The Haaheo is an excellent rifle, with the stock heavy balance being the primary flaw. To correct this, we will move the Refocyte battery (reshaped to be a 2 inch diameter, 1 inch long cylinder) in front of the receiver, mounted under the barrel. This reduces the amount of weight in the stock, and by running the Nickel connection under the wooden grip under the barrel, the connection remains secure. The Refocyte battery is held in place by two latches which release by tightly gripping both sides of the connector. The Refocyte battery is contained in a rubber-lined sheet metal casing, with a small circular glass window inset into the metal (but not in contact with the battery itself) on the side facing the wielder. This feature allows the user to see how much charge is left in the battery. Finally, to improve accuracy at long range, a simple screw is added to allow adjustments to the rear iron sight.

Difficulty: Easy
Result: (2+1)+1=4, Poor

So the rebalancing itself went fine. with the more balanced rifle it's easier to shoot and scoot. The unprecedented problem comes in the nickel. Up until now our nickel contacts have been of limited length, and for all we knew nickel just pumped stored energy from one piece of refocyte to one it comes in contact with. What we have learned from making the Haaheo-B is that the length of the contact has a measurable effect on the speed of the energy transfer. The Haaheo-B takes a couple seconds to charge between shots, slowing rate of fire. While this rifle will be enjoyed by some, the hit to RoF reduces the weapon's potential in close combat.

The Haaheo-B (you can rename this) does without the bipod of it's predecessor. The battery, mounted in front of the receiver, was observable through a plate of glass in the rifle, but this was ultimately canned as testing showed it often shattered if the rifle was handled in any way roughly - like diving to the ground - and so it was replaced by a small metal hatch with a pin to hold it closed.

The Haaheo-B costs 2 Ore, 3 Oil, and 4 Refocyte, making it (EXPENSIVE).

----------------

Embralish agents were discovered on this side of the strait and opened fire on a scavenging party before fleeing back toward Salvios. It is clear that the Embralish are hostile, and so we have no option other than to take them out before they compromise our goals here. You, as the most knowledgeable of what has been deployed, will be in command. It's do or die.

Note that I forgot to specify that the sea areas are divided into East and West, but it's also not the hardest concept to deliver. Oops.

You are to choose Two Lanes to attack on. You can decide to attack a Pact facility in your territory in lieu of a second sector to attack.

Land Battles may result in either a Win, where you will gain control of 1/3 of the territory as well as a resource node; a Loss, where you will be forced to withdraw and, if defending, lose a resource node; or a Stalemate, where no ground will be gained, though repeated Stalemates will tend to push things in the Attacker's favor as defending forces are whittled down and the attackers can maintain presence in the area.

Sea Battles determine control of a coastal region, with higher levels of dominance over your opponents allowing more sea-based support for the land forces. Territories can go from Contested, where both sides are in heated combat on the waves and minimal land support can be provided, all the way up to Total Control, where the dominating side can provide any support available to land forces from the coast. Attacking a Sea Lane gives the opportunity to increase your control of the area, but defending the sea can be a very easy task, given the right tools...

You are also to assign a resource to a node by specifying what resource to extract/produce in which sector.

Oh, and don't forget to submit your propaganda by posting it in the Core Thread by the end of this phase!

IT IS NOW THE STRATEGY PHASE.

I think that wherever we attack we should attack the accompanying Sea lane, so that we can have support from that lane in the attack. I'm putting the Kona on the defense so that if they attack the other lane it's not contested only by destroyers, and putting the battleship on the attack for shore bombardment. A refocyte node makes multiple things cheaper. The mudflats will probably favor the Wikiwiki and Haaheo more than the peaks, which will be better for the Nima and the Kalaka most likely. I also think shore bombardment will have more effect in the mud flats. So I'm leaning to those.

I'll make one as well I suppose. Don't expect much though.

Quote
Inithar has long been a people of culture, a people of solidarity. Since ancient days, we traveled the seas together, taking of what was needed and no more, caring for the islands. We told our tales, passed down our knowledge, and lived in peace.

This all changed when the Empure attacked us. Stealing our lands, trampling our customs and the environment, they sought only to conquer. In turn, we used the Nima Silver to destroy their so called superior ships and walls, and were the main reason the Siege of Media came to be. Having protected ourselves, we retreated to govern the lands we had taken, having no care for the supposed treasures waiting within the city. For we had no need of them, being united in peace and war.

Sadly, other nations came to despise us, desiring the wealth we had gathered over the millennia, the lands we carefully cared for. Many tried to take from us, but they failed just as the one time empire did. Until Inithar's Folly. When our most skilled Refocyte-smiths died. During that times after, war began. We made improvements to the old ways, and even as aircraft entered the war, we countered them.

But this is where the story ends. For the number of our enemies were endless, and they greedy. While we had an unbridled advantage against them, they were not completely outclassed as in the war against the Empire in times past, and one by one our holdings were being destroyed.

A light however, of a mysterious island where new resources could be gathered to help. And so we built our fleets and set out to claim this chance at survival.

Inithar will not truly fall, so long as we survive here. For all Initharians carry the Tales of Color inside our hearts, our ancient history and community.

I'd like to post this as my entry, though for Opsec, I really can't post it in the main thread, can I?

I've edited Plan A after hearing about how naval advantage works; if we have a heavier advantage then it can really boost the ground assault, and the peaks are likely to be less effected by shore bombardment anyway (although I doubt their flagsub is particularly good at bombardment...). So I've put both the Kona and Kaipo'u on the attack to hopefully just lock down that section of sea.

Quota sidearm:
A long-barreled pistol, the Quota is a revolver that operates on a firing mechanism similar to the Haaheo. It fires 14mm bullets from a covered rotary magazine, which swings out after unlatching the cover and releasing the swing pin. The rotary magazine holds 8 bullets, with the bullets loaded in through the back, using the same placeholder rings already present in the Haaheo. When the trigger is pulled, the mechanism rotates the magazine to slot the next bullet in place for firing, pulling the firing plate and pin back by 2mm in the process. The firing plate mechanism, when a bullet is fired, recieves the recoil as a block, and transferring that force into a small Refocyte mesh behind the mechanism, which then charges the battery. The battery is stored in the Handle, and a small wooden grip runs along the barrel of the gun for long range use. The barrel is rifled.

I don't really understand the strategy phase mechanics in this one; that said, there seems to be a good plan in place already.

So, in the strategy phase, we get two deployments of our military. We can deploy them to any of the sea sectors, or we can deploy them to land sectors we have access to. In this case, the land sectors to which we have access are the Mudflats and the Southern Peaks, and the sea lanes that are relevant are the Eastern and Western Maelstrom. We can also deploy any National-Effort level projects, of which there is only one each, to specific fronts. The plan we've voted for is using one of our deployments to deploy a fleet to the Eastern Maelstrom, and try to get more control so that our second deployment, in the Mudflats, has an easier time landing and has naval support. To this end we deployed both of our National Efforts on that front.

No current changes to costs. Though you might have already known that.

Ore: 2
Oil: 2
Wood: 2
Refocyte: 2+1 from Taiga = 3 Refocyte

Initharian Armory Cost Check
Land:

M1 'Nima': Costs 2 Wood and 2 Refocyte. (CHEAP) No Change

M2 'Haaheo' Heavy Rifle: Costs 3 Ore, 3 Oil, 4 Refocyte. (VERY EXPENSIVE) (Refocyte Bullets) Changed to EXPENSIVE[From 4 to 3 Resource Deficient]
M2.1 'Haaheo-B' Rifle: A 7kg version of the Haaheo sans bipod. The rifle is balanced with the battery mounted forward of the receiver. Length of the nickel thread reduces charge time of firing plate, though not devastatingly so. Costs 2 Ore, 3 Oil, 4 Refocyte. (EXPENSIVE) (Refocyte Bullets) No Change[From 3 to 2 Resource Deficient]

M1 'Kakala':  Costs 3 Ore, 3 Refocyte. (EXPENSIVE) Changed to CHEAP[From 2 to 1 Resource Deficient]

Initharian Expeditionary Force Uniforms:

Wikiwiki Armored Carrier: . Costs 4 Ore and 3 Refocyte. (EXPENSIVE) No Change[From 3 to 2 Resource Deficient]

Sea:

Ho'oula-Class Destroyer:  Costs 3 Ore and 3 Refocyte. (EXPENSIVE) Changed to CHEAP[From 2 to 1 Resource Deficient]

Kaipo'u-Class Battleship:  Costs 6 Ore and 6 Refocyte. (NATIONAL EFFORT) 8 Deficient. Changed to 7 Deficient. 5 Deficent needed for Cost Down.

INFS Kona:  Always (NATIONAL EFFORT)

Air:

A5 'Io:  Costs 3 Ore and 4 Refocyte. (EXPENSIVE) No Change[From 3 to 2 Resource Deficient]

Special:

Unique Resource - Refocyte: A metal that in it's base state stores energy applied through impact until a threshold is reached, where it will deliver the entirety of the stored force at the point of impact. An uncharged piece resembles silver and will become a dark green as it charges. Twisting and compressing rods into coils leaves them slowly unfurling with force relative to their gauge and the tightness of the coil. Purification to varying levels manipulates the capacity of the metal. Rubber negates the charge/discharge effects of impact. Nickel transfers charge between pieces. Refocyte expending charge will absorb energy from connected nickel/refocyte while charging said refocyte will transfer energy into the nickel/refocyte.

Supercharger Coilengines: Engines that utilize coils of refocyte to produce mechanical energy. A battery utilizing a rubber casing and nickel transfer plate can increase a coil's uptime before needing re-coiling while also increasing energy output for a limited time.

Refocyte Bullets: High-purity steel jacketed Refocyte bullets capable of punching holes in light armor and causing spalling. Always considered available for any weapons with the tag (Refocyte Bullets) at one Expense Level higher than the weapon itself.

Traits:

A Sea of Colors: The Initharians have communicated through atypical means for millenia. This manifests as a keen ability to learn and utilize nonverbal communications on the battlefield as well as provide a number of difficult codes to crack when communicating verbally. This provides a small bonus to troop organization as well as a bonus to communication and communications equipment-related designs.

1 resource deficit is cheap in MoP's games, if that hasn't changed. Reading the OP doesn't say otherwise. So as a matter of fact, the Kalaka and Ho'oula become cheap and the Haaheo becomes Expensive.

(You have the Haaheo as already expensive; the revised version is the Haaheo-B and does not fully replace the Haaheo)

Refocyte composite
A refocyte-nickel-rubber-nickel-refocyte composite would allow for kinetic enengy absorption, but will dampen the violent release of energy caused by overloading.
