Communicating vessels in DF universe?

For some reason, a u bend tunnel doesn't work because water won't go up one z level like it should in real life.
Is there anyway to fix that?

From gravity alone, nothing that I know of. If you add a pump before the bend, the water will fill to the pump's z-level (unless it hits any pressure reducers). The pump can be "in line" with just the one take-from tile channeled down.

It's the way DF flow logic works: U bends result in an output water level one level lower than the input. Why? Don't know, and it doesn't really matter, as we'll have to live with whatever the logic is (although it would be nice to know the rationale). Given that there are several issues with water flow logic, it's probably going to be changed eventually, but I wouldn't be on that being within the next decade.

Ah, thanks. If it  is only one z level lower it is not a big deal. Actually it makes underground reservoir safer.

Although a diagonal depressurizer will negate any pressure, ensuring the water won't rise above the current level (another DF water flow logic quirks). The U bends have a place with grates to block underwater access to the fortress, though.

They can also act as water purifiers.

Another common solution: Plan/place your u-bends 1 z-level lower.
