This is the signup sheet and a post to Gauge interest in a Polytopia-Civilization thing. I will put a poll up for the preferred scale of the game, but for now, here is the application:

Name of Empire: Mahou Celest
Terrain theme: Airy Mountains and Low Green Valleys.
Army theme: Robes and red/orange/blue/green. Colors for everything.
Leader bonus: Aer Mata: Magic-Gain a Bonus to Magical Research & Production
Civilization bonus: Ancient Wood-crafting technique and meditation/communal with the natural world. Boosts Gathering of natural resources, and building wooden structures.
Unique unit: Elementalist: Someone who has communed with nature to gain magical powers, often associated with a specific element.

Signups are closed for now. Prepare for game launch ETA: 2 days.
In addition, add a unique tile upgrade/building, and city theme (visual)

City Theme: Japan/Norse style/mountain city. With all the natural Japanese houses and flattened land in the side of mountains. Earth Elementalism for the win.
Unique Tile Upgrade: Natural Road- Using Elementalism, the earth and stone can be shaped, allowing roads to be made through any terrain. This includes bridges across rivers. The Wooden fences and poles on the edges are decorations, placed by hand, and ward the path against erosion.
Unique Building: Airy Waterfall Tower- Showing a natural view of things, Rock gardens and Waterfalls can be created amidst wooden towers, buildings, and bridges. Effectively, this Structure decreases unrest, and reduces the training time of units in towns/cities it is created. Despite the description, normal gardens can also be created. It depends on the area. Only one can be created per town. Cities can have multiple, based on how many people they have, starting at 3.

websim.ai is coming dangerously close to being able to run Gridhood. Maybe I'll live to see the day if I exercise, eat right, and somehow convince the world's governments not to nuke everyone.

No you don’t have to be humans, yes you will get new units based on empire theme.

Civilization Name: Cyclops Concinnant Meritocracy
Terrain: Mountains and underground Tunnels.
Army Theme: Superheavy Infantry
Lord Bonus: Lord of the Forge: Gain a Bonus to Metalworking Magic and Research
Civilization Bonus: 4 Meters tall on average
Unique Unit: Cyclops ForgeMaster: A Cyclops in Full plate capable of calling upon the heat of the forges that they usually spend their days working in.
City Theme:  Massive subterranean cities, Think Ironforge from wow.
Unique Building: Titan Forges: a massive series of interconnected kilns, foundries, and forges that are capable of outputting Arms, armour and various metal goods at an unprecedented rate. Heavily Decrease the Cost of armored unis in this city.

Heres a sheet for what amounts to Cyclops dwarves. Based on the Fact that Cyclopses were originally master smiths in their mythology.

though I admit, that kinda complicates my choices a bit more, now I don't have a strict 'most workable option' like I did before...

I had one idea, but I'm realizing that a cavalry and beast taming focus may not be the best when technology is likely to advance to the modern day and beyond in time.

Name of Empire: Draconic Dictum Gerontocracy
Terrain Theme Deserts, Coasts, and Floodplains
Army Theme: Red and gold-colored scale mail and fast riding horses/camels, with an ascetic to what the Persians wore.
Leader Bonus: Hoarder of Knowledge: Gain a large bonus to magic researching and maintaining/increasing large hoards of gold.
Civilization Bonus: Draconic Heritage: The ancient blood of dragons are in the bloodlines of the humans of this civilization, and some humans develop associated traits and connect to them. The infamous breath weapon, wings on a scaled backing, and the ability to wield magic innately when the heirs of magic develop and hone their sorcerous power.
Unique Unit: Immortals, Humans with thick red scales around their bodies and can breathe cones of magma-hot flames, as well have superhuman regeneration due to their name sake.
Unique Building: Desert Igniter: Utilizes Desert tiles and increases their gold/production towards a city.
Theme: Sandstone buildings and mausoleums, Anatolian civilization.

Name of Empire: The Wild Clans
Terrain theme: Lush forests with wide clearings
Army theme: Focus on taming/riding strange and dangerous beasts(So like, big lizards instead of horses)
Leader bonus: Friend of nature- Bonus to agricultural and animal research.
Civilization bonus: Beastmasters- Increased effectiveness of Cavalry and Tamed Beast style units
City theme: Villages and structures integrated directly into the forests, with buildings being constructed out of or around large trees.

If Fortress Beetle can be made as a building instead;

Unique Unit: Raphinos- Large winged creature like some hybrid of a bat and a great bird. They can use the claws on their wings to scale trees, and are strong enough to individually carry a man with some effort. Their aerial fighting style makes them a difficult challenge for melee range foes.
Unique building: Fortress Beetle- Titanic insects with thick front legs and mostly hollow shells. Fortress Beetles are exceptionally rare, but effectively act as mobile villages. With their great size and strong legs they can bash through walls with ease and take on other targets that are large(not in comparison to the beetle, just large in general, like heavy vehicles), but are practically defenseless against infantry scale combatants. Their sheer size means they take up an entire district, and as such a whole district must be dedicated to each one until it is fully grown and equipped and ready to be deployed.

Otherwise:

Unique building: Wild Grove- A district sized grove with an immense tree at the center. Serves as a place to grow and raise animals of all sorts. Heavily decreases the cost of Cavalry and Tamed beast units in this city. Does not apply to Fortress Beetles.

There's also the fact that people often tend to be a lot more willing to accept having powerful magic early than guns early, even though powerful magic can easily be better than guns.
