This is a reply to the meta thread dedicated to this subforum.

In all seriousness, I'm still waiting for the GM of Land Wars 2 to at least interact with the thread. Apparently I didn't check the thread.

So, would like the opposite be a thread that you can only post in while in character within a game?

And so, Imic looked down at the Tablet, and began to read the front page of Forum Games and Roleplaying. ‘Oh’ he said, ‘The meta discussion thread? I would have excpected something like this to be removed. Oh well, I’ll take a look at it.’
But little did Imic know, he was already looking at the Thread looking at himself in the thread looking at himself. And so his head exploded, and that was the end of Imic for all of three minutes.

Why is no one running more elaborate roleplaying games
(e.g DnD 4th edition)

Because most lack the dedication needed to do it over many days.

I'd say that'd fall under the purview of other games subforum, because it is technically a game in and of itself and not a forum game like a play by post, or suggestion, or role playing interactive fiction.

Also its not like people haven't in the past, it is just those tend to have limited users able to play or get grindingly slow with time differences and waiting of players to act.

imo the fg&rp subforum tends to favor games that have low commitment, like "_ person above you" threads or suggestive literary games, like "god games" "you are _" "insert illustrated suggestion game here", or high investment technical games "thread title has at least 6 random words in it games" or outright rp for rp sake "Urist Mckittenbeard, siege on Boatmurdered: quest for the holy anvil of the deep, ooc"

A D&D 5e game could work pretty well here, come to think of it...

@March

I tend to think of the pacing of successful forum games(that are more complex than "above poster" yet less rigorous than D&D) as very similar to board games...

I tend to say I am a hobby board game designer, but what I really mean is forum game, but no one knows what that is in RL.

There are some very elaborate forum games going on here, like the FEF games, but actual proper famous tabletop games HAVE been ran here and are kind of accepted as this subforum's domain, it's just that it is an awful lot of work to run them and they usually peter out.
