I've never rafted down the river. And we have the river handling skill. Let's do that.

Good good. *Stuffs revolver back in pocket.*

“I’m getting really worried about Twelvebay. He’s been bleeding for three weeks and all the alcohol we’ve been giving him doesn’t seem to be staving off delirium.

I heard him mumbling something about not letting him die and making sure we feed him all the rarions or he’d shoot us all, and then he seemed to holster an imaginary revolver.

I think we should keep him away from all the guns until we get to Oregon.”

We can decide on the river later, but I do recommend it. Additionally, Urist Twelvebay is the character that was created collectively at the start to lead our troop of miscreant settlers. Egan's character is Esteva Rodruiguez, a geriatric cholera enthusiast. Of note, Estrava's symptoms have subsided, though he remains in less than perfect health.

We have immediately begun having the sorts of problems that one might expect from a group of people whose preparations can be summed up as "one blanket for everyone".

Spoiler: Baby it's cold outside (click to show/hide)

It was literally 69 degrees one day, then 15 the next. That has basically been maintained for a few days now.

Urist Twelvebay has reacquired his infection. We were obliged to rest for 4 days in a blizzard for it to abate. I have traded the locals for various fruits and vegetables, but we are running out of extra things to trade. The horse bridle we found back when in the abandoned wagon, for instance. The malaria medication, since excessive mosquitoes seems an unlikely problem to have in a blizzard in December.

I have made sure to hold on to Duffy's Elixer and James Fever Powder in the hopes that they unlock the door to El Dorado or something, since they have been as useful as a pork chop at a bar mitzvah thus far.

More updates on Monday. Thoughts and prayers appreciated for our life-scarring journey through ice hell.

I guess frostbite is a step-up from intermittent cholera.

Looks like we're getting to the point in the game where we might end up having our own Donner party type situation.

While waiting for a chance to play/update, I did some research on Duffy's Elixer and James' Fever Powder.

They are likely based on Daffy's Elixer and James Fever Powder.

"As useful as a pork chop at a Bar Mitzvah" may have been overly generous.

Friends, we have made it to Fort Boise.

It was a relatively short trip that took an extra 2 months due to the gunshot would sustained by Urist Twelvebay. After trading for proper guide-recommended medicine (Alum for bleeding, Isopropyl Alcohol for infection) and resting one final time, Urist Twelvebay seems to have stopped bleeding and hosting record numbers of bacteria within his withered husk.

I was obliged to trade the shotgun for medicine.

Spoiler: Behold, our sanctum (click to show/hide)

But perhaps most important:
Spoiler: Party health (click to show/hide)

Mind you we are not in the clear. It looks like we're having a warm spell, what with it being 63 degrees again. I have no doubt that there will be more terrible cold along the way. We are also completely out of dry goods, including fruits and vegetables. Morale is high on account of surviving the full wrath of nature and also being drunk out of our minds for 4 months straight.

We are also nearly out of replacement wagon parts. We likely do not have enough money or spare goods to trade or buy warm clothing. We appear to have eaten some of the chickens. Hunting has become more scarce, we are returning with maybe 20lb of food per hunt rather than 100-200.

We have $20.82 remaining.

Edit: Updated the OP title, LOTR jokes make me happy wanna fite abbat it

Note: This fort has a greatly reduced store of goods.

Our options for vegetables are pickles. Mind you pickles come in 25lb barrels and are quite good in terms of bang for our buck. They also have dried beans and rice for preserved foods.

We cannot afford even a single winter coat. They are 22$. We CAN afford 6 pairs of long underwear, though it will run us around 6-7$. Not sure exactly how much protection that will provide. Presumably not actually 1/22 of a winter coat.

Buy some beans, our excess gases can be burned for warmth.

This sounds reasonably based in reality.

Of course Twelvebay has been trying to poison me, why do you think I shot him?
