I lied, things were busy yesterday so here were no updates.

At any rate, we've reached the Rockies proper. It's quite warm yet, I think we may not need those blankets after all.

After that we reached the first hill. Ropes/chains have been the go-to in the past, and we made it up the hill with no trouble. We also hunted 200 lbs. of meat.

Spoiler: Rocky Ridge (click to show/hide)

Unfortunately we ran into a problem soon after that I've never seen before.

Anyway, more updates later. What do we do with the animal? It's early September, so we're hardly in danger of winter if we slow down. Our wagon load is lighter, we may not actually need 6 oxen at this point, but more is better. Finally, I'm not sure how harsh winter is crossing, say, Utah. Speed may also be best. I expect we are maybe 2-3 months from Oregon City, though a winter in Oregon State would be likely more of an inconvenience than a mortal danger.

Quick update: I actually don't think we're dealing with a broken leg here or the like, that being my original assumption. The locals you can ask for advise make it sound like the animal will just miss work for a whole. I may have overreacted.

That woodchuck is still a smug dick, though.

Was it butchered or has it not been decided? If it hasn’t been decided, I vote we Slow down so that we might be able to better avoid the holes

If we can continue as normal, do that, otherwise, slow down.

Nah I'm waiting for votes on what to do with an oxen, it has not been butchered. They are our means of transportation, basically the beating heart of our migration.

Losing too many oxen would slow us down and reduce our carrying capacity for the wagon. It will also make fording rivers and moving up hills more difficult.

We have a lot less stuff than we set out with just via use of tools and goods along the way, so we should be just fine with 5 oxen, but care should be taken regardless.

We'd probably end up having to trade some firearms or something for an oxen if we ever need more.

Can't have injured animals, can't find any cholera without them. Rest for a while.

Rest a while. Traveling with hurt ox feels like it turns into traveling with lame/dead ox; since we have plenty of meat that would just be a wasted resource.

We surprisingly haven't lost anybody yet, let's not start now.
