...a bit too much dakka there bro.

Revision: Winchester Model 1887 Lever-Action Repeating Shotgun (Sothweg Navy Custom Order)

"Our current long rifles are sadly out of date.  Cumbersome, slow-firing, requiring marksmanship to use effectively: all of these problems can be fixed by the importing of American-made repeating shotguns.  The Winchester Model 1887, is a lever-action repeating shotgun, firing from a 5-round internal tube magazine.  Winchester Arms has had great success selling this particular firearm in recent years, and surely has enough inventory to ship our way.

However, we would like to place a custom bulk order (as most militaries do when purchasing from abroad.)  The receiver should be machined out of higher grade alloy steel.  Not only will this ruggedize the weapon for military wear-and-tear, but it should hopefully allow for introduction of our Lorem smokeless propellant into the shotgun shells.  Also, a standard bayonet lug underneath the muzzle would be of great use."

Spring, 1890, Design Phase.
Quote from: Project lightning
While we can all say that our ships have proven themselves to be better fighting ships than the peasants ton for ton, we must grudgingly acknowledge that when it comes to speed the peasants have out classed us. The project lightning aims to close the gap if not overcome the speed advantage the peasants have enjoyed this year through two aspects. The first aspect of the project looks to do away with with the old triple expansion steam engines for steam turbines. Additionally drive system is altered to include a gear box allowing us to have more speed control with out having to reduce steam when ever we need to slow down. The second aspect looks to replace the fire-tube boilers for water-tube boilers which should allow for us to produce higher steam pressures in our boilers giving more steam power with less or smaller boilers.
Time: 2 5 | Progress: 5 | Expense: 4

Despite our work seeming to be likely to take quite some time, the addition of more resources to the project have proven vital to cutting down the time required, and much more progress had been made than what would otherwise happen without the assistance. Regardless, the project won't cost too much to work on itself, and should likely be finished at most in 6 to 7 months barring major setbacks or no funding.

"Project lightning" Steam Turbine Engine| 5/12 progress | 2 PP per die | Rushed 0 times | 2 PP invested

Effectiveness: 6 | Cost: 3 | Bugs: 6

The project itself, at least using the prototypes, shows to be extremely promising. It is likely a bit costly due to our shipbuilding industry being better equipped at installing the older triple expansion engines and the training as well as industry and equipment required to be shifted over for the new engines production, along with the obvious time consuming task of replacing machinery that will likely be undertaken in order to equip existing ships with them. Yet, despite this it is proven to be well worth the cost. Early tests show the engine is reliable, almost like an exact opposite of the old "kick it till it works" of the older versions of the Central Rangefinding Station. In fact, nothing short of it getting proliferated with shrapnel or directly hit is likely to damage the machinery itself. Additionally, it's highly effective at its job of making our ships faster. In fact, given the results we have found from the thing, we'd not be surprised if this was actually what the peasants were using. Of course, likely a worse version of this, after all anything they can do we can do better.

Face hardened armor (2 die spent, 0 die rushed)
3+4+1=8. 6 PP spent this turn.

Some time is spent working on the armor, and it comes just that little bit closer to completion. We'd have expected a bit more progress, but overall we are only slightly behind schedule and should be able to catch up with ease. Regardless, our work will still take some time, but overall, good progress has been made, mostly due to the amount of support given to the project.

The 8" gun is a must going forward: both for our large cruiser and shore batteries.  I'm not sure how much more we can squeeze out of the torpedo, but it's also worth a shot.  I was tempted to vote for the shotgun, but we haven't seen anybody's marines contribute to the battle report, so we might as well wait a few years until some better historical arms pop up and/or marines become more relevant.  I was hoping to bundle in the armor to the Serpent revision, but it looks like that's going to be a bit too far off now.  For now, we'll just have to do the guns.

If we are going to wait for armour to be done we may as well just make a new design at that point to better utilize the steam turbines as well

Just a suggestion for long term planning we are well within the age of powered airships, the value of good scouting information can be understated and there seems to be enough room on the back of a minnow class too serve as a tender for them with some modification.

Spring, 1890, Revision & Refit Phase.
QF 8"/45 Lorem M1890
The QF 8"/45 Lorem M1890 is revision of the old 8” guns in our arsenal to better utilize our lorem powder and implementing the improvements we made in our light gun project such as the recoil pistons and replacing the breaches to be QF. The new guns as the name suggests will have a barrel of 45 caliber length. Due to the size of the caliber the guns are still built-up construction but with our improvements in steel forging and metallurgy it is hoped that we can make the gun lighter then the old 8”.

Efficacy: 5

With some proper modifications done to better take advantage of the powder in question, combined with some improvements made through the use of replacing breaches to allow better firing speed, we have managed to make the 8 inch Lorem M1890 fairly good. It has a range of roughly 25 thousand yards and is very reliable. We believe it might be slightly less reliable than the other guns, but we could be wrong, and honestly, the gun itself is quite good. Its also moderately cheap, meaning it won't cost too much to put it on our ships, and wont take too long either.

Mjolnir mk3:
With the success of the torpedo strike last season it had been decided by the admiralty that further work to improve on the torpedoes particularly the range and speed with some consideration on reducing the noise they produce as well but not a priority.

Efficacy: 6

As usual, our torpedoes are the envy of the world. Or rather, would be if we breached operational security and showed them off to the rest of the world. The Mk 3 of the Mjolnir is honestly wonderful. Capable of 34 knots and a range of 2,500 yards, however thats not all. With a flip of a switch, the torpedo will go instead at the more traditional 28 knots and have a range of 3,000 yards. 1 thousand of which are with the power of the wheel. Despite this, we believe that without a proper project dedicated to a Mk 4 varaint, we will not progress much farther in the progress of torpedoes. As we are already getting to the upper limit of what is possible with our budget thus far. Though, it is impressive having the worlds best torpedo with such a small budget. Also, the torpedo is fairly quiet now. It makes a small hum, but its not loud enough to actually be heard by anything not directly inside the ship.

Update the serpent:
Update the serpent class to have the new guns.

Efficacy: 3

We did the work over the Serpent class's design to be able to use our new and improved guns on it. Its nothing particularly great, but it does the job just fine, and fairly quickly thankfully. The only issue is the cost...

It is now the Production and Deployment phase. You have 6 PP remaining should you pay for all maintenance and construction costs.
