Summer, 1890, Revision & Refit Phase.Dazzle Paint
The art of shoot things is not a simple as pointing the gun at a ship and firing away, it is a rather complex problem with many variables that must be considered in order for a gunnery crew to be able to lay accurate fire on their target made even more difficult when officers need to make these calculations on the fly while their target is shooting back. Of course we have no intention of making it any easier for our enemies. Dazzle Paint is a camouflage which uses sharp lines and geometric patterns which is intended to confuse observers of a ship's heading, speed, distance and even size to greatly hamper the enemies ability to lay accurate fire.
Efficacy: 4
By painting varying lines of black and white along a ship, we make a number of things happen. Firstly, is a negative. The ships are slightly easier to spot. However, this isn't actually that bad, as at range, the ships can seem to be two instead of one, or even three. Additionally, the patterns on all ships are unique, and they will certainly make enemy's have some issues in figuring out where its heading, and its speed. Its more effective at longer range, as one might expect. At the end of the day however, it will likely help our ships not get hit too often, at least. Naturally, seeing how this is just a new paint job, it can be applied to our ships without much time or cost on our part. So, its a cheap and minor boon to us. Though it by no means prevents the enemy from actually hitting us.
CRFS improvment and streamlining program:
While the CRFS(central range finding station)is technological marvel and one of the greatest piece of technology the naval R&D board has created in this century, but there is still to improve the system. The goal of the program is to are three fold, one to install shock absorbers and implement design changes to harden the system to shock damage hopefully making the system immune to anything short of a direct hit to the system. Secondly the program is to find ways to reduce the cost of the system with out impacting the performance.
Efficacy: 5
Work on the CRFS to make it more durrible seems to be fairly easy. With some minor changes to key components, the addition of a few things to make it deal with vibrations, and also a few material changes, we have managed to improve the range finder to not be broken and fixed by kicking it. It should now be able to keep working even if a shell lands and goes through the room below it, or something similar so long as it doesn't explode enough to punch through the floor and directly damage the range finder. Regardless, with some proper work done on fixing the thing, we worked a bit on standardizing it, and making it a bit easier to put together, which has managed to make it cost less as it's a bit less complex and intricate to make for our ship builders.
It is now the Production & Deployment Phase. You have 25 PP should you pay for all maintenance to use on the construction of new ships.
