The mk1 ORF is an optical device which can be described as a 3ft long tube made up of 2 parascopes placed on each end of the tube with an eye piece at the middle for the operator to look into. The two parascopes feed into the same eye piece which causes the image to be blurred if the device is out of focus of the target which can be adjusted by the operator with two dials one for coarse adjustment and another for fine adjustments. The range of a target is determind when the operator gets a clear image of the target. The range finder comes with a collapsible tripod and a carrying case for the opertor to place the range finder any where on the ship to make measurments.

Face hardened armour is a new type of armour that has the benefits of the now obsolete compound armour while be made of a single armour plate. This is done be a process called face hardening where the face surface of the armour plate is covered in charcoal and heated for 2 to 3 weeks increasing the carbon content of one side of the plate before being quenched ine oil and than water. This leaves a plate with a hard face to shatter impacting shell while also having a tough and amaluable back to minimize the risk of the armour plate shattering or spalling and with a single armour plate which removes the risk of armour plates separating like compound armour.

Damage Mitigation, Prevention, and Repair Board Study
The newly established DMPRB, or Damage Mitigation, Prevention, and Repair Board, is undertaking a detailed study into the results of naval combat upon our own fine nation's ships, focusing on what hurts us the most, how we can most prevent that hurt from happening by good design, how we can decrease and repair the hurt after the damage happens most effectively, and what parts of the ship make either of those easier or harder and why. From this study they will give a multitude of design suggestions meant to make our ships harder to hurt, make them get hurt less when they get damaged anyway, and make them easier to repair after they do get damaged. Some suggestions, such as reinforced anti-explosion doors between the magazines and... basically anything else, will be easier the other suggestions, like their current focus on efficient pumping techniques for countering flooding and widespread training in proper damage control for all crewmen, but the hassle should be well worth it for us to have less sinking or maimed ships at the end of a battle.

Central Rangefinding Station
A proposed upgrade to naval firing control stations, the doctrine of the Central Rangefinding Station would consist of a central location on the ship equipped with both a powerful mechanical calculator and a large scale rangefinder, either of the stereoscopic or coincidence types. This rangefinder would thus feed data into the calculator, which would then calculate the proper firing solution to hit the target, which would then be communicated to the ships guns for firing, allowing increased effectiveness per shot in battle.

So here's two designs we should do this turn so we can then revise them into the blueprints for the Serpent before we undergo the pre-war megaconstruction phase at the end of this turn. Better armor would be nice, but damage control will also help ships survive better, and better rangefinding and shooting is very important and if we don't put a proper firing control system in now, we'll have to wait for the next generation of ships or at least the next generation of refits to put them in in any large scale. Meanwhile better propellant can probably be used without needing a full revision spent on upgrading the blueprints later, so I don't think it's a priority right now, as this is our last turn before the big build phase so we should focus on stuff that directly effects the mass building we're about to do.
