Refit and Repair, Sothweg
Looking for the core thread?

Today is a good day for you, and a few others as the small steam ship used to transport you to the main docks. This will be not only your own new home for the foreseeable future, but also the home port for the entire navy, and where those new ships you make will be created. Of course, hopefully you won't need to actually use these ships, but its of extreme importance to have them with the rising tensions coming from that peasant republic that calls themselves Nemorland. After all, what would they do if a war was to break out and they manage to win? That would be horrific...

Still, with current overhauls in the entire military, you've been made to make Sothweg's control and skill of the sea similar to that of our ancient ancestors. However, while there is no real need to rush as we aren't at war, its likely only a matter of time. By then however, we should have expanded the navy enough to deal with them and bring them under the rule of a proper leader rather than one of their rabble.

Now, you are to make a flag to fly proudly above your ships and pick a few perks. After, you are to design a legacy fleet using four turns, with the design finished on the same turn automatically. After these four turns, you may spend a number of PP on the ships you designed before the first normal turn starts, followed by the first turn at war. Feel free to give a fancy name for the Navy as well, if you desire.

Technology Leader
Rapid Economic Growth
Advanced/Efficient Shipbuilding Industry

Sure we are corrupt and incompetent, but we will have the most advanced exploding ships.

Plan: Rapid Tooling

-1 Small Shipyards

We may start small, but those peasants are going to learn that we rule these waves, and not them.

Plan No Looking Back is too risky for me, I don't want to see what kind of results Hidden Flaws+Major Corruption gives us because I don't think it'll be good, while between NegaNorway and Rapid Tooling the big difference is the small shipyards verses bad marines, and I'd prefer to start with small shipyards then have bad marines the whole game.

As such I currently support plan Rapid Tooling.

Voting for my plan, though I doubt anyone else will go for buggy messes of designs.

Perks are locked in...

Pregame Start!

In the past, the army controlled all naval assets, with the focus of the navy being merely the transportation of the army to and from islands of the archipelago. However times have changed, especially with the rising threat from Nemorland. As such, ships made primarily for transport was seen clearly as to be not enough anymore. Actual proper fighting ships were required. And as such, here we are, with a brand new navy. Of course, the creation process of the new navy has gone smoothly and efficiently, and with the clear importance getting up to speed with our navy is, along with its size, a series of checks and balances with every single design has been done as to make sure our ships are quality, and luckily, while our shipyards are more experienced with smaller merchant ships, they will likely be able to build our warships quickly and effectively as well, resulting in quantity.

However, despite the clear importance of our task, the fact our current navy is so small has resulted in the budget not being equal to that of the army in the slightest and is unfortunately not as large as it really should be. Though, this is understandable given the creation of our navy being so recent and numbers so small. But, with the abundance of iron and steel making facilities, along with natural veins of iron, coal, copper, and even some major silver and gold deposits along with many other natural resources that enrich our wondrous mountains, our economy and by extension are budget should only grow at a quick pace, hurried more only by the fact that a war is likely. This should lead to our navy getting a steady increase in funding with each new ship built. However, a proper naval ensign and name is all that is required, and with enough prestige compared to the northerners of Nemorland, we could get public funding for a ship...

Viking Class Light (Armoured) Cruiser
Given the need for an armoured cruiser of some form for our navy to be successful, the Viking is our first vessel designed to operate as a capital ship, even if it's barely at the displacement limit for the current shipyards we have. Displacing at roughly 3,900 tons, the Viking has both belt and deck armour as befitting an armoured cruiser, if more to protect from smaller calibre shots than the two 152mm (6 inch) guns mounted in a single double turret on the bow. The Viking also features a defensively-oriented layout, ensuring that even if a shot gets through it's armour the damaged should be lessened. Furthermore, the Viking has a set of 6 3-inch guns as a secondary armament, all in turrets with three on each side of the ship. Intended to reach a top speed of roughly 18 knots (if not more), the Viking is an impressive, modern cruiser which the nation can rally around.
