Cedric did not wait for the dust to settle, but rode up to Marietta to pull the uncounscious swordlady onto his saddle.

"Go, go! Run for the outpost, people! We cannot stay here any longer!!" Leading by example, he forced his horse into a gallop northwards, just as a great troop of horsemen could be seen riding towards the crossroads from the south!

[Solymr]

: *huff* That was for... Godfried... and the rest at camp. Lucas turned back for a moment, trying to catch a glimpse of the other commander, before running behind Cedric.

: Next one, Luitgard.

"That's it! Take that, asshole—!" Marietta yelled, more angry than triumphant that she managed to dig her knife deeply into Ludger... but her yelling was promptly cut off by a screech as she felt cold winds dig into her flesh, and the hard thud of a hill against her head knocking her out. Possibly for the best, otherwise she would have probably yelled at Cedric for treating her like some kind of damsel in distress.

"I'll bring up the rear, come on!" Sylvianne waited for everyone to get moving before she set off running herself, keeping her tome under one arm as she went.

[Gaterhyme]

"You heard Cedric! Johannes, Volk, anyone that needs a hand, hurry up and get on-"

Grietje waited just a moment to help any one of them onto Hans if they took the offer, then took off following Cedric, watching as Maertens' broken soldiers scattered before them.

Wordlessly, Marion turned her horse and galloped up the road, steering ahead of the rearguard.

But that was the mage at the camp. He's dead now, but Luitgard is still out there. *That* legacy, I can't run away from forever.

Few minutes later...

The sounds of galloping Angebortian cavalry was coming from behind - and there was a lot of them, too. Whoever was delayed, have decidedly joined the other group that worked with now dead mage...

"Wh-where's the damn fort!?" Volk was running across the hilly terrain with big hops, sweating profusely but somehow keeping up with Cedric who was on horseback.

"Look!" The bandit pointed his finger forward. "Thar it is!!"

And lo and behold, a stone fort, blocking the passage through the mountains, came into view from just around the corner!

Just in the same moment a stray arrow, launched from afar, struck Cedric in the back. He yelled out before clenching his teeth.

"Cedric!!"

"Do not... stop!..." Grasping at the shaft sticking out of his back, he nonetheless kept the horse steady...


Meanwhile...

"Lady Commander, the mages have scried the incoming group. It's a bunch of people in various uniforms and, well, rags. A blonde-haired youth is riding at the front, dressed in green shirt."

"Aha! That must be this Cedric and his rebel group. Mister Chaunce was right. I just hope my cousin is there too... wait, what is that dust cloud over there?" The commander pointed out.

"Some... some cavalry is chasing after the first group! There's dozens of them!"

"May Sisters damn them! Pegasi! To the gate! Mages up the wall! Load the ballistae, quick, quick!!" The brown-haired woman lifted her battle dress and quickly made her way downstairs from the post above the gate.


Cedric and his group approached the fort, just as mages lined up above and soldiers opened the gate.

A group of pegasi, flanking an exceptionally-well dressed, brown-haired lady, rushed forth outside, a pair of healers running behind them.

"Guh..." Cedric wavered in the saddle, and leaned away, but was prevented from the fall by the woman.

"Steady there, friend! Healers! Don't worry, you will be alright. Healers!" The priests came up to the woman's side, quickly working to remove the arrow and heal the wound.

"Stop right there! This criminal has no right of living!" The heavily armed knight stopped his horse just ten feet away from Cedric, his group, and the pegasus and their commander.

At least fifty soldiers, more than half of them mounted, stopped behind the knight. One of them, wielding a nasty-looking bow, rode to the knight's side.

"That's him, isn't it!? Cedric?? Let me at him! I will avenge my brother! I will rip this kid's guts off!!" The commander-lady rode her pegasus up front to cover Cedric. One hand extended in a blocking gesture, she leaned down to the nearest of Cedric's rebels...
