Grietje managed a wan smile.

"The count probably won't be happy about that, but I'm sure he and Anneliese'll still be glad to see you again."

"And right... even flying as fast as we were, we barely made it," she said, already beginning to remount her pegasus. "We knew something was wrong when we saw all the horsemen, but to think they'd already reached the camp, too..."

"Johannes, d-do you want me to look at your nose?"

Marion looked shaken, and she cast a couple of glances at Cedric and Marietta when she thought that nobody was looking.

[Haspen]

@Marion:

Johannes waited patiently to get his nose fixed.

"Thanks."

@Others:

"Well, it's best we move on then. We need to return to the camp and collect Jorne, then we go west. Everyone ready?"

Orietta looks concerned that the fight wasn't fully resolved, relieved that her allies aren't at each other's throats anymore, and yet....

...no. She needed time to process everything, and they needed somewhere safe to do it first.

Marietta was still annoyed and rubbing her nose, but she gave a small shrug.

"Screw it, I need to blow off steam. Find some heads for me to roll... preferably Church heads."

She didn't voice it out loud, but Marietta would really appreciate being able to sit down and rest for once, too.

Markus stretches his spry old bones a little.

The group set off in search of a new home...

~~Chapter 2: Trash Animals on the Run~~

Through the thickets, the marshes, the woods and the brooks, with constant stream of little mosquitos and flies harassing the group on the way, Cedric led his glorious band of revolutionary heroes on a run from the authorities. They're bound for Tatalia, where they will be able to rest and regroup at the manor of Count Vuckerbecke.

When they will get there, however, nobody knows...

It's been almost two days, and now the rebels started to ascend more than they did descend, and the swampy, watery woods were replaced with dry pines and spruces growing up the hillside. After a while, Cedric, all sweaty and exhausted, stopped his horse and let out a sigh.

"Alright... I think... we can rest for a while... Margrethe, Chaunce, whose turn at scouting it is?"

[Gaterhyme]

"Chaunce did last time, so it's my turn now," Grietje piped up, mustering a good amount of enthusiasm considering the conditions. "Did you need something? Otherwise, I'll get right to it."

[Haspen]

"No, just... just see if there's anyone laying in ambush ahead."

[Gaterhyme]

"Of course. I'm on it." With a low voice, she began speaking to her pegasus, drawing his attention away from a particularly persistent fly.

"Come on, Hans. Low and careful."

They took off in a set of powerful wingbeats, searching ahead.

@Margrethe:

Just beyond the hill, there was a curious sight - a small, ruined keep laid in the very path that the group has taken. Most of the outer walls were overgrown, while a small tower poked out between the tall trees. Although the vegetation took its toll on the fortification, the whole construction seemed in good shape, and the roofs of the buildings had only few holes in them.

@Otherpandas:

"..." Cedric dismounted and walked up to certain iron grill.

"Sylvianne? I would like to talk."

"Huh?" Sylvianne had been watching the woods, trying to stay ready for anything they might encounter. "Of course, Cedric, what do you need?"

With the group having stopped for a break, Joram decided now would be a good a time as any. At the end of the reunion with the larger group, his group had been told that their base had been wiped out. He needed to know more, now that there was a moment. He approached Orietta. "I'd like you to tell me what we know about the attack on our base."

"As far as we know...."
"We were betrayed by one of our allies and their forces swept in while we were on a supply run. We only found.... one survivor and he was half-delirious."
