"Please, don't overexert yourself."

She grabbed Marietta's other arm and helped lower her back to the ground.

"Thank you, Cedric. I'll only be a few minutes. I know that we must keep moving, but in this state they can't even do that, let alone fight."

She set to work with the stave, focusing only on the most serious injuries. The minor ones would have to wait.

"S-steady, got it... um... thanks."

"...Yeah. No worries." Eloise replied a tad awkwardly.

: H-he does have a horse though...

"And horses are slow in the woods, which is why we're here and those cavalry aren't."

All of the touching was honestly giving Marietta a bit of the shivers; she wasn't very used to physical contact unless it was through weaponry. However, she wasn't in any condition to fight it at all of course, and she allowed herself to be lowered to the ground, resting against a tree again as she was healed. She started breathing sighs of relief as her wounds began to close up, her being more and more thankful for the power of magic.

Cedric gritted his teeth.

"A moment of rest, then!"

: "That would be wise my lord, as much as I'd hate to leave our camp at the mercy of the enemy, we would be more of a hindrance than an aid as we are. But if I may ask, who told us about the caravan in the first place?."

Cedric gritted his teeth so more. Poor kid will waste his enamel this way.

"You think Godfried-" Cedric took a deep breath.

"I will pretend I haven't heard that. Don't speak ill of Master Godfried ever again!"

After only a few minutes of healing the group's injuries, Marion set her stave in its place on her saddlebag, and swung herself back onto the saddle. She had done her work in record time; back home, the haste would have earned her a reprimand from one of the senior sisters, but here time was of the essence.

"Cedric, I'm ready to go."

"We should move quick regardless. A moment of rest was essential, but our pursuers will likely be close behind us."

Marietta still didn't feel great, but she wasn't about to be picky in a time of urgency like this. She simply got up, gave a nod and prepared to take off running again. Hopefully she didn't reopen up any of the wounds... though she felt like it wouldn't be so.

"Easy, Cedric, he didn't mean anything by it. We'll figure out who was responsible for this."

[Haspen]

"Finally! Let's move!" And Cedric the slave-driver rebel boy led his group back home. The rain returned, stronger than before, creating tiny streams of muddy water between the members of the group every so often.

The palisades surrounding the old keep were tall and sturdy, and the gate was closed. The sentry house, built hastily above the gate, was often housed by at least one, if not two sentries at once, but...

"Ludwig? Robert? Anton!" Cedric stared at the sentry house, but only silence replied to him.

: No sentries... but at least the gate is closed. Do you think that's a good sign?

"We could be walking into an ambush. At least, that's the kind of thing my mother would say."

Disregarding safety - and his comrades words, Cedric hopped off his horse and ran up to the gate, pushing against it.

He managed to open it slightly, a clear sign that the door was not barred from the inside, and he moved inside the camp.

Then there was silence.

Walking inside of the seemingly abandoned keep as readily as Cedric did, Markus hesitatnly opined.
: "Perhaps our comrades had advanced warning and fled before a battle occurred? But that seems...awfully cowardly of them to do so, so readily..."

Markus was thus first - after Cedric - to witness the carnage within the rebel camp.

Numerous bodies, were laying haphazardly on the ground, their faces drowning in mud and blood. No one was spared, not even the elderly matrons doing the cooking and young kids that were doing errands for the rebels... all of them were dead.

No wonder that the gate was unguarded - for there was no one left alive to guard it.

"G... Godfried! Luitgard!!" Cedric ran deeper into the camp, towards the ruined buildings that housed most of the rebels most of the time.
