Bio: Erica Aureliana di Palladino da Vancia was once a bodyguard of some repute, hailing from the Tibberrine Republics. The bastard child of a perverted minister of the Inviolable Light, born to nobles of low importance, Erica rose in the Church's ranks as a footman to important figures in the Inviolable Light's ranks. After years of dealing with the corruption and horrors of the ministers of the church, Erica had had enough, her personal morals and religious upbringing clashing with her experiences. Bouncing between various masters in an attempt to find a cause she could put her support behind, Erica suffered many losses in searching for a master she could put her faith in. The death of Joachim Lichteisen forced Erica to flee once more, and so Erica joined forces with the future Queen Sophia and her retinue, to avenge her master, do right by him and hopefully find what she so desperately sought; something she could genuinely fight for.
But that was years ago.
Erica participated in actions in the defense of Queen Sophia at the beginning of the fight for the throne, acting in secret to protect the queen as she had done for so many others. Where others fought in the light, Erica fought in the shadows, in a world of spies and intelligence-gathering and skulduggery. War was never her forte, at least not in the open; for her, the darkness was her territory, and protecting the Queen from enemies in the dark was her skill. But ultimately, the darkness was too strong even for the light that Erica could wield. The Berg-Boore Revolution took one of Erica's trusted allies with them, and Rowan's disappearance removed the last of Erica's allies she could trust. She knew that the infant Prince was now safe, and with no allies she could call upon to protect the Queen, she went into hiding and fled. Her experiences had broken her, again, and for two years, Erica was once more a broken woman, hanging up the mantle of bodyguard for the sake of others. However, during her time in hiding, Erica met a lone farmer, by the name of Lambert. At first, they did not get along; Erica had only gone to the man for a place to hide, a place to flee the prying eyes of those who opposed the Queen and so would hunt her down, and he was none the happier for dealing with her. As time passed, however, he began to remind her of an old ally of hers; proud-hearted, but kind, brash and brave. He, in turn, arose the qualities of Erica that had been so long lost beneath the surface. Slowly, surely, he mended her broken heart and restored her faith in humanity, and something had blossomed between them in the process.
To them was born Orietta, a daughter who took after her mother in appearance and her father in heart.
Erica and her husband agreed had agreed on one thing, that Orietta should never have to know what happened in Erica's past. That was too much for any young girl to have to deal with. Erica, at last, could let that burden she had borne for years go. She was no longer Erica Aureliana di Palladino, the broken bodyguard, the warrior in the darkness who fought for her master against those who sought to harm them; she was Eline, the simple farmer's wife, and nobody save her husband knew any better. She buried her secrets deep, and raised Orietta as best as she could, teaching her as she had been taught by her own parents, to be kind and to do what was right. She passed her beliefs down to her child, carefully hiding what had happened in the world she had left behind. Orietta grew up happily, growing into a fine young woman, the pride of the small village she had grown up in. Two younger brothers joined their family, and Orietta did her best to care for them too.
Erica, slowly, forgot the past, but the past did not let Erica fully leave its grasp.
Slowly, rumours came of Cedric von Sachsen's travels, of his gathering of allies to retake the throne. Erica had always encouraged Orietta to read and discover the truth for herself, and so Orietta did. Having never discovered her mother's true name, and her mother having operated in the darkness, Orietta didn't know where to first look. Eventually, however, she happened upon one hint of the past that Erica did not hide right; a stack of letters, communications between her and old allies of the Queen. At once, Orietta realised that her mother had once been more than meets the eye, and so demanded answers, and Orietta recieved them all; her past from Vancia, her service under the Queen and the tragic end to it all. Orietta could feel a great regret in her mother's countenance; the feeling that she had failed in the end, even if she herself had achieved a happy ending of sorts. The Queen, Orietta knew, did not deserve the fate that had been foisted upon her. And Erica had always taught her to do what was right, no matter what; unlike her mother, Orietta had not been tempered by a cruel, corrupt world.
Her mind was resolved.
Not a few days later, despite Erica's pleading, Orietta rode off, taking up her mother's metaphorical sword. In the name of her mother, in the name of what was right, in the name of completing her mother's failed task, Orietta would fight.
