[Economic Snake]

I recently had a few weavers get stuck in webs and I have a few questions:

1: How can I get them out... I would prefer if they didn't starve or get devoured by giant spiders.

2: How do I give them some form of defense? I read on the wiki that you can assign them war dogs but that feature seems to have been removed?http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2014:Assign_animal

Anyone have any ideas?

I'll leave it up to others to make gameplay suggestions but in regards to the title

To assign War Dogs:
1) have a trained unassigned war dog - training can be specified from the (z) -> animals menu
2) (v)iew the dwarf you want to assign to and select their (p)references
3) choose (a) for work animals, then select particular animal and (Enter) to assign
Note work animals are assigned for life (although clever workarounds might be possible  ).

For instance, "for life" isn't that long in DF.

Got it! Turns out I didn't have any war dogs, but I had traded for a lion and tamed it for war so now my weavers going into the unknown depths of the caverns have a lion protecting them.
