1st of Granite, 152Arceus above, I did
NOT see this coming.
No sooner than I had floated the suggestion of removing Paddy from power to avoid further legendary incidents I ended up being ordered into going with Redmagecole to dig through her office and go through all the orders and decrees to do some damage control while Paddy was possessed. Makes a change from daily drills I guess.
Paddy had a list of dwarves she was possessing each time she died and a second list of dwarves that might end up unseating her as overseer. It appears that one time she was queen rubbed off on her and was judging everybody as one would possible threats to rulership.
What I didn't quite get was why I was at the top of both lists. I turned to Redmagecole and asked her why that was when I had bugger all ambitions for power.
"Well she removed me from office by force and you're the best fighter in the fort. On top of that nobody really knows anything about you so if you had a sudden change in personality it wouldn't be obvious till she got her transition finished and restored her power."
I rubbed by chin in thought at this. Now an angry dictator's spirit possessing me shouldn't be a problem. Best fighter in the fort though? I suppose compared to the dwarves and that one human yes, a disguised Zoroark that picked up a mace would be pretty good.
Sadly no matter how good I was, nothing could have prepared me for what Cole said next:
"So from now on- as expedition leader, I name you overseer of Redgem The Blue-Gem. If she succeeds, she wont be able to seize it by force, if the spirit offs her, then everybody will know something's up the moment you start socialising or strip mining."
I nearly broke my disguise in shock. Me, a Zoroark that wanted to learn how dwarves took rocks and dirt and turn them into masterpieces by pretending to be one was now the current ruler?
Arceus help me...
2nd of Granite, 152The first thing I did was get a list of everybody in the fort together and see what's left of our workforce after numerous casualties
Second thing I ordered was the cancellation of making these iron picks and axes and reassigned some smithing orders. We don't need this much equipment if we already have spares according to the inventory. We have lots to trade away and proper steel works up and running. On top of that, why in Groudon's name do we not have anybody dedicated to weaponsmithing? we have a single professional armoursmith and a pair of metal crafter who are both experts in their craft but not a single member of this fort has anything more than adequate weapon work.
No wonder the military is struggling. On top of that, the military seem to be struggling with mismatching and incomplete equipment and a schedule that's got us stuck on training constantly, well those of us in the melee squad at least- can't find an archery range for the crossbow squad.
Mining wise way down in the caverns there is a strip mining operation. By the time I got down there it was nearly done. Our stone stockpiles were almost full despite only two layers of rock being dug out. We didn't have enough storage space nor did we have mason's doing stuff with it despite multiple workshops, what on earth was paddy thinking?!
What really got on my nerves however was that the fallen corpses of Avuz Nakuthtun and SQ weren't buried, parts of Thob lemosedan's, Moldath something or other and even Goden the Wynaut were all strewn about. Not a single one of them was having space dug out for memorials! Paddy was literally making a breeding ground for Cofagrigus with all these corpse bits and gold!
On a final note for preliminary damage control, Paddy appears to still be possessed but apparently still found time to punch a passing kobold before a somebody's Pignite killed it
