You invite the foreigner and the translator to side rooms to hear their stories.
Wettered is a large islander kingdom, with only few holdings on the main continent, the provinces bordering the northernmost reaches of Maellia and Gellaine. To the far north, there's a continent covered with thicket of fruit and vine trees, where giant wild animals stalk their prey and make meals out of the tiny, black peoples that Wettereds call 'dwarves'.
The forests go northwards for quite a while, before giving out to large steppes peppered with rocks and lakes. It's where the Suikkaa live, a kingdom-like nation of princely cities, and chief producers of gold and silver, bought and traded by Wetteredians with others.
Wettered sailors have sailed far west but found only a small island, which is now a Wetteredian colony. It seems nothing but sea lies to the west of that island, called Roderdane.
To the east and south, the Great Oak Forest extends, wedged between the lands of Maellia and Gellaine, as well as the lands further east and north. It is, the Wetteredian attests, the place where the Mountain of Soot is located, and where the Great Dragon lives.
Inquiring about the Great Dragon, you learn that it is a giant, black, winged reptile that has been revered by the people as object of faith and power. It's anger causes tremors and blizzards, and when hungry it must be fed human flesh. Wetteredians, Gellainites and Maellians do not worship the Great Dragon, for it has always turned its greedy eyes northwards rather than anywhere else.
To the north of the Great Forest, lie several kingdoms, with few of them united under the banner of Konigian Empire. The Konigians have always been conquerors and politicians, putting their enemies against each other until they were weakened and ripe for conquest. Most of the Konigians and Konigian client kingdoms worship the Great Dragon, except the easternmost fringes, which follow the teachings of some warrior-poet or some such, the Wetteredian isn't sure.
It seems that the traveller is either unwilling or not learned enough to give you further details, but then again, it's a lot of information anyway. Prompted to sketch the coats of arms of Wettered, he does so, and even does so for Konigia as well.
Azure, a waterwheel argentQuarterly, I sable, a dragon or (for Great Dragon), II and III, gules, a saxon crown or (for Konigia), IV sable, a rose argent seeded and barbed gules (for Weiseblem dynasty) You thank the traveller for his time, and he leaves the palace.
Some courtiers gather to talk with you about this visitation by the northern foreigner.
"Mayhaps we should send some traveller or several up north? Kastoria always kept its ties only with Xane and Satorias for centuries, is it time to spread our word across other lands?"
A) "Let's send a land caravan, it's cheaper that way."
B) "Let's send a naval convoy with our explorers and diplomats on board, we have lots of ships!"
C) "We're not even done with our neighbourhood, looking for opportunities in distant places would be foolish thing to do."
